I can’t say, after our brief acquaintance, that I know western Mongolia’s Khovd River well, but I do know that I’ll be back to learn more . . .

After thousands of miles spent working their way north through pristine boreal forests, coastal fjords, and towering rivers of ice, Aimee and Chase have finally reached the end of the road...

...However, there’s still one surreal landscape at the edge of the world to explore, and one elusive prehistoric fish to find within it, before the duo can truly say goodbye to the North in good conscience.

Join us for the LIVE premiere of the Tight Loops: Two in the North series finale! Award-winning filmmakers Chase and Aimee Bartee will be hanging out in the live chat throughout the premiere, sharing stories from the trip, answering questions, and watching the end of the journey along with us.

Come say hello, ask them what it was really like out there, and see how one very long summer in the North finally comes to an end.

Deep in the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, @tightloopsfly set out by packraft in search of an isolated population of Arctic char - relics of a colder landscape left behind as the last glaciers retreated thousands of years ago.

After hours of portaging between remote lakes and battling worsening conditions, the fishing never quite came together.

But just before sunset, a young moose came crashing out of the woods at a full sprint.

Ten seconds later, they found out why 👀

To make it home, they have to become 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘦𝘭𝘴𝘦.

@tightloopsfly arrive on Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula just as the salmon are beginning one of the strangest transformations in the natural world.

After years spent as sleek, silver fish in the open ocean, Pacific salmon return to freshwater to spawn - changing color, growing hooked jaws and teeth, and taking on almost monstrous forms along the way. And once that final journey begins, so does another transformation: their bodies literally begin to break down, with every last bit of energy devoted to completing the cycle.

It’s a brief, brutal return home - and one that brings an entire Alaskan ecosystem to life.
