📢On the 12th of October our interactive webinar took place, an event dedicated to promoting active citizenship, inclusion, and gender equality with a special focus on empowering women from second-generation migrant backgrounds.

📝An interesting discussion was developed, focusing on the current landscape of female political participation, and it was an opportunity to exchange key insights, and unpack the distinct obstacles women face when entering public life.

Our keynote speaker, Tilbe Gündüz @tilbegunduz , argued that civic participation begins with feeling safe and a sense of belonging. Drawing on her personal experience as a migrant building community in Athens, together with insights from her professional work and projects, she explored how underrepresented groups create chosen families and safe spaces. Her central message was that grassroots space-making is the foundation for turning vulnerability into real civic agency and active participation.

The interviews with migrant women that were broadcasted during the webinar gave further depth to the conversation on civic participation, political life, and European identity as well as inspiration on taking action.

Tilbe Gunduz @tilbegunduz is an organiser, community founder, and expert practitioner in safety, inclusion, and grassroots space-making based in Athens, Greece. Having moved to Athens eight years ago as a migrant, her work is deeply rooted in the lived reality of navigating structural barriers, finding belonging, and cultivating chosen family within underrepresented communities. As part of project Matterz, Tilbe works to design practical, inclusive safety frameworks for statistically vulnerable groups, bridging the gap between local grassroots organizing and broader civic engagement across Europe.

Tilbe is an Aries.She’s 38 years old and she first sat at my table in January 2026.She’s one of my latest appointments that sat at my table.

Tilbe is a woman who truly inspires me. Coming from Turkey, she taught me what it is like to live as a homosexual woman there. Her strength and all of her energy are something I personally don’t encounter every day. Through Tilbe, I have broadened my horizons even further to feminism. She is someone I am constantly learning new things from. She listens to System of a Down. I listen to System of a Down. I met her as an IT manager. She is still an IT manager, while at the same time she has started her own journey in tattooing. I met her before @carabiners_athens .I took part in the first @carabiners_athens event. I will continue taking part in the events to come. She buys us coffee on our appointments. I buy us coffee on our appointments.She has hosted me at her home and we have eaten together. She has met my cats. I have met her cat. And among all these things and many more, Tilbe introduced me to her wife.Fofi.Fofi comes to every appointment.Fofi always drinks coffee with us and eats a toast. Meivis absolutely adores Fofi because she is constantly giving her attention. They are the first homosexual couple I have met who are officially married. And they are my strength and my hope that, for everyone out there, there is “my person.”

Nevertheless, they always tell me we should go out for drinks. I always say yes, but I never keep my word.
