Das Papier „The Day After" von David Begrich, @matthiasquent , Heike Radvan, Fabian Virchow @miteinanderlsa und weiteren Kolleg*innen unterscheidet zwei Phasen: „Day Before" – sich in noch stabilen Verhältnissen vorbereiten. „Day After" – da befindet sich die demokratische Zivilgesellschaft in Sachsen-Anhalt seit dem 6. September.
Nächster Abend: „Was trennt? Über Polarisierung", 15.10., 18.30 Uhr.

Artistically Powerful. Radically Inclusive. Politically Impactful.

 20–30 August 2026

@aesthetics_of_solidarity is a 10-day Festival of interactive theatre, workshops, dramaturgy laboratories and public dialogue.

Urgent social conflicts — from housing justice, migration policies, ecological crisis to toxic masculinity — are transformed into collective artistic experiences shaped by rhythm, movement and sharp humour through Forum Theatre and Legislative Theatre.

The festival proposes theatre as an assembly and collective imagination practice: a space where the audience is invited to enter the scene, test alternatives and change the narrative of the performance.

The programme includes works by KURINGA’s International Ensemble, as well as presentations by Berlin-based collectives such as Pandeforium, @bralin.theater , Masculinities Lab, @madalena.berlin , sharing the results of long-term collective creation processes.

Furthermore, it offers workshops to learn about the techniques that serve as base to create those plays.

The festival marks 15 years of KURINGA’s artistic, pedagogical and political work in Berlin under the artistic direction of @barbara.kuringa , one of the leading international voices in Theatre of the Oppressed, long-time collaborator of Augusto Boal, and creator of “Teatro de las Oprimidas” as a feminist and decolonial practice.

Zwei Tage in Cottbus waren voller spannender Erlebnisse.

Vote for KURINGA!!

Waterbodies is an interactive theatre project on water rights, environmental justice and collective participation. The project explores our embodied connection to water and invites audiences to imagine concrete strategies for protecting it as a common good.

We are currently applying for the UP! Social Microgrant, which supports projects with social and cultural impact. The selection is decided by public vote.

The funding would support the production of the performance and the development of a participatory Legislative Theatre process, where audiences become active agents, proposing and discussing measures to defend water as a shared and protected resource.

You can support us by voting here (takes some seconds):

Deadline: April 7

Your vote directly helps make this project possible.

Thank you for your support!

International Theatre of the Oppressed Day
Today, March 16, 2026, Augusto Boal would have turned 95. Brazilian theatre director, playwright and researcher, Boal dedicated his life to developing a theatre that not only represents reality, but allows people to analyze it and transform it collectively.
In the 1950s - 60s Brazil was experiencing profound social and political tensions. Augusto Boal worked at the Arena Theatre of São Paulo as director and dramaturg. In that time, he encountered the Brazilian educator Paulo Freire, author of Pedagogy of the Oppressed (1968), whose ideas influenced Boal’s search for a theatre where spectators could become active participants rather than passive observers.

In 1964, a military coup established a dictatorship in Brazil. Augusto Boal was arrested in 1971 and later forced to leave the country.

During those years in exile he continued developing his work across Latin America and Europe, working with communities, educators and social movements.

In this context of dictatorship, exile and political struggle, Theatre of the Oppressed was born.

Over the following decades the practice continued to grow and evolve. To explain it, Augusto Boal used the metaphor of a tree that reminds us how Theatre of the Oppressed is a living and evolving practice.

Theatre of the Oppressed was born during a time of crisis with a revolutionary proposal: collective process of creation and reflection to stimulate the research of strategies to overcome injustice.

Crisis is danger and also an opportunity for transformation.

Nowadays its tools are used around the world to analyze oppression, rehearse change and create spaces for democratic participation.
