'Where the river meets the cloud জল যেখানে মেঘের সাথে দেখা করে' Residency at Chilika (Balugaon), Odisha. 19th June – 30th June 2024. Supported by Dot Line Foundation in collaboration with Odi Art Museum (Odisha), Nine Fish Art Gallery (Mumbai), and Hidden Area (Sweden, Tracing A City & Meteor International Joint collaboration. জল, তার কাছে রাখা সব গল্প কথা গান কিস্সা কি বাষ্পীভূত হয়ে মেঘের কাছে জামানত রেখে দেয় কালির কোলে ভরসা রেখে? অথবা ভাসান দেয় নতুন চরাচরে? মেঘ কি ভারাক্রান্ত হয়ে এক ফোটা দু ফোঁটা করে গড়িয়ে পড়ে পৃথিবীর গাল বেয়ে? নেমে আসে সব গল্প, কথা, কাহিনি, কিস্সারা একে একে নতুন আমেজে, সংসার পাতে পাড় ঘেঁষে অন্য কালি দহে !? ২০২৪ সালের মে মাস, গ্রীস্ম আর বর্ষার মাঝামাঝি, আমি যায় ওড়িশাতে। এটা আমার প্রথম যাওয়া। টেক্সট বই বা বাংলা সিনেমাতে একটা লাইন 'বাংলা বিহার ওড়িশার মহান অধিপতি নবাব সিরাজ-উদ-দৌল্লা...' - যেখান থেকে প্রথম ওড়িশার নাম শুনি। ২০২১ সালে যখন গোয়া থেকে ওয়েস্ট বেঙ্গল এর দিকে ট্রেন যাচ্ছিল তখন জানালা দিয়ে প্রথম চিলিকা হ্রদ দেখি, আর বিস্ময় বাড়ে। তারপর ২০১৫ সালে সাক্ষাৎ অবস্থান। প্রথম দর্শন, প্রত্যাশার কাছে উষ্ঠা খেয়ে ও দিয়ে কিছু সময়ের পাঠ, বেশ এলোমেলো মনোভাব, যেভাবে যা রয়ে গেল তার সাথে আবহাওয়ার ধুয়াশায় গল্পের ভরসায় আমার কাছে যা পড়ে থাকল তাই এখানে খসড়া হয়ে আছে।

What a wrap to the Open Day! We were happy to have you all at the Open Day of Kala aur Kitabein 2025–26 at the FICA Reading Room. Throughout the day, children were busy installing their artworks, setting up selfie zones, and curating their work on the walls. Through typography, mark-making, zines, and scroll painting, they explored foods, places, monuments, vehicles, memories, plants, and livelihoods. The day was filled with a film screening, a shared meal, a walkthrough, and an open mic performance, where children shared awareness around consent through storytelling, rap, song, and dance. Kala aur Kitabein is a collaboration between Artreach India and FICA, supported by Yashodhara Dalmia. A wonderful and vibrant Sunday was spent at the FICA Reading Room, celebrating the Open Day for Kala aur Kitabein, an Artreach India and FICA programme supported by Yashodhara Dalmia. As the second year of the programme came to a close, we gathered at the Reading Room to reflect on the year and celebrate all that the children had learnt, explored and experienced with artist educator @jyothidaskv , and @tilottama_ from the Artreach team. The children took over the library for the day, moving from wall to wall, deciding how their artworks would be displayed. One wall of the Reading Room became a dictionary of Delhi – a collection of words, feelings, places and things that the children associate with the city. From Humayun’s Tomb, Yamuna ghat to momos and rajma chawal, the dictionary captured the many different things that make Delhi home. The library also came alive with stories of trees and our various associations and memories with them – like seeing an especially magnificent one on the way to one’s grandmother’s home. Maps of the neighbourhoods surrounding the participating libraries, and pop-up books opened into entire worlds of their own. The children prepared speeches, performances and skits for the group, sharing their experiences and ideas with remarkable confidence. The day ended on a suitably celebratory note – with dancing and a samosa party! As Kala aur Kitabein enters its third year, we are delighted that our small group of children from Lado Sarai, who have been regular visitors to the FICA Reading Room for the past year, will also be participating. They are eager to make new friends and share their own experiences of the space. We look forward to seeing this growing group of young readers continue to build confidence, curiosity and a sense of belonging through art-making – and to discover all the new worlds they will create together. The exhibition of the children’s work is on display at the FICA Reading Room up till 31st August. With participants from @mehrauli_community_library , @tara_childprotection and @kitabein_bolti_hain . Taana Baana Reflections: the warp of the artist's fabrics was bound with the weft of conversations, music, and dialogue. Curated by @fatimajuned , Taana Baana wove together our learnings and questions over the last six years. Last weekend, we gathered to ask - What power does the textile really hold? How does one use it for provoking new ideas or talking about issues we love brushing under the carpet? How can we create a space for true feminist and democratic dialogue through the fabric? Many came together to make Taana Baana what it was - from the visible names and hands who shared their stories, voices, and ideas to the invisible labour of translations, editing, printing, set up, take down, and what not. We are happy to share that Participants from the programme ‘Kala aur Kitabein'- 2025-26, invite you to the opening of their exhibition at FICA Reading Room on Sunday, 23rd August, 4pm - 6.30pm. Over the year, children from @tara_childprotection, @mehrauli_community_library and @kitabein_bolti_hain have met regularly and imagined library spaces as active sites of community building through art and storytelling. Workshops were designed and led by artist educator @jyothidaskv, and @tilottama_ from Artreach team. Throughout the workshops they learned different printmaking techniques, designing covers, understanding fonts, and basics of binding book. Also, they welcomed their friends to visit their own library space with play, activities and shared snacks together. Every journey is shaped by the people who quietly stand beside us—encouraging us, believing in us, and reminding us that every small effort matters. Looking back at our session on 21st July, we are filled with gratitude for everyone who became a part of it. Some stood behind the scenes, some shared the stage, and many simply showed up with open hearts. Each of you became the backbone of that conversation. A session, where visuals depicted the psyche of borders and post migration, stories of the unconscious or conscious, floating and vibrants lives, and eventually words followed. On 21st of July at Vadehra Art Gallery, Cross Cat collective and জমায়েত/zmayet(jomayet) shared a space where two collectives took a pause, to revisit their journeys. This session was a "Mehfil" : a Mehfil of reading books of friends ,seeing through their words, listening their voices, having fun, listening "folk songs" by Neel daa and engaged with people, with "Muri & Chai" . Somewhere between those moments, we revisited our own journey—from the tiny seed that was Psychera #1 to the world that has now blossomed into Psychera V. While on the other hand, @zmayet__ shared their motivation for working as a cooperative in SE Asia around participatory publication in a collective research model. This was part of FICA’s ongoing exhibition ‘towards minor gestures: intensities in the making', with Cross Cat Collective and জমায়েত (Jomayet) around the landscape of independent self-publishing and the ecosystem of comics, zines, and paper culture between Tripura, Dhaka, and their neighbouring regions. This dialogue is part of a collaboration with Reunion in the form of Exchange / Within Cohesive Correspondence with @mx.kaurchimuk and moderated by @srrbrrr Much care to @kitchen_untitled Thanks to @vidyashivadas and to the entire @fica_india team. Our sincere gratitude to @vadehraartgallery and the @mrinalinimukherjee.foundation for opening up this scope for young practitioners to intersect.
