POV: You’re singing as loud as you can in the back of a pickup truck, hitchhiking from South Africa to Norway with €0 for transport and accommodation. 🌍🎶

No plan. No comfort. No idea what tomorrow brings.

Just strangers who become friends, roads that become stories, and moments that remind you what it means to be alive.

One day, we’ll wish we could live this day all over again.

Day in the life of hitchhikers travelling from South Africa to Norway with €0 for transport & accommodation

We woke up in Porto Amboim, Angola, started the day with a refreshing swim, and then hit FIVE different banks… only to find out none of them had cash. 💸

So, back to hitchhiking with empty wallets!

45 minutes later, Eto picked us up and dropped us at Cabo Ledo, a legendary surf spot. We met some fellow travellers, rented surfboards, and spent the next 1.5 hours chasing some seriously good waves.

After burgers, editing footage, and sharing hitchhiking stories over dinner at a beautiful resort, it was time to figure out where to sleep.

Our solution? Hammocks… well, mosquito nets hanging over sun loungers at the beach bar. No tent, no accommodation costs, just the sound of the ocean and a sunrise wake-up call.

We squeezed in one more surf session the next morning, grabbed another burger, and headed back to the road.

Next stop: wherever the road takes us.

Can you travel across continents with €0? We're finding out one lift at a time.

We just made it to Angola.

I was a bit scared to come here because of what people told us about this country. We would get robbed, scammed and maybe even killed.

But after spending a few days here, meeting locals and experiencing the country for myself, I realised how wrong those stereotypes were.

We arrived in Lubango at Roberto his place. He was a complete stranger at first, but now his place feels like home to me.

We joined a running competition together and I broke my personal record. But what surprised me the most was that a running competition here is followed by a party with unlimited beers? You know that I loved that part!

But mom, i also realise that it aren't only the running competitions that are different from what we are used to at home.

Here, electricity goes out almost every day. Fuel stations run dry. People struggle to get cash out of banks. Families have to fetch water from a waterhole water on their heads because their small wooden homes have no tap access.

And it makes me think about life back in Belgium.

We complain when the Wi-Fi stops working or when the train is late. We’re so used to having these things that we forget they’re privileges.

And the strange thing is… the people here, despite their own struggles, have welcomed us with so much kindness.

I came here a little bit afraid of the people.

But instead, they’ve made me reflect on myself.

Maybe travelling isn't just about discovering the world, Mom.

Maybe it's about appreciating what we already have… and how easily we forget it.

From South Africa to Norway, relying only on the kindness of strangers. 🌍 PART 2: NAMIBIA 🇳🇦

Empty roads, endless deserts, a drunk policeman, and over four hours waiting for a ride in the middle of nowhere. Namibia was already testing us.

But then came some of the kindest strangers, breathtaking sand dunes, dolphins in the ocean, and a five-hour road trip through knee-deep puddles with two French women who turned into our unexpected travel angels.

We camped among the giant rocks of Spitzkoppe, hitchhiked 200 km through a national park filled with wild animals, and ended up dancing with a local family in a Namibian township.

Namibia may be one of the most sparsely populated countries in the world, but one thing is certain: you’re never truly alone when you travel with an open heart.

And this is only the beginning. 🇳🇦

We still have over 20,000 km to go before reaching Norway, relying on nothing but the kindness of strangers.

Follow along for the rest of the journey.

Kan je liften door Namibië's grootste safaripark?

Wij zochten het voor je uit op ons liftavontuur van Zuid Afrika tot Noorwegen. Want vandaag probeerden we door Etosha national park te liften.

Raadsel onderweg: Welk beest drinkt graag olie?

Drop jullie antwoord in de comments!
