I took 12 girls to Mexico to swim with…

WHALE SHARKS 🦈😭

This has been THE TOP experiences on my bucket list for yearsssss.

I’ve tried swimming with whalesharks in the Philippines, Thailand, and Mexico before - and something ALWAYS went wrong. Bad weather. No sharks. Or I’d realize the whole operation was sketchy and unethical.

So finding a place where nobody feeds them, nobody touches them, boats are limited, and the animals are respected was the criteria. And I found that in La Paz.

And then we jumped in…

SEVEN WHALE SHARKS. Some bigger than a bus. 😭

Crying underwater with @pinklrb while a literal sea dinosaur swam by us is now a core memory.

And we’re doing it again. 🥹 wanna come?

🦈 Baja, Mexico
🌊 December 10-15, 2026

Comment WHALESHARK and I’ll send you the trip details and application.

Just a few highlights from the Book Passage Travel Writers Conference. (I launched my career here back in 2003!)

Timathea making me a home cooked lunch in her stylish van.

Straight from NYC, Paulette doing her standup set in my room with my curling iron as her mic.

Meeting the ladies of Studio Unfurl IRL, from as far as New York and Singapore.

Words colliding! Scott Simon surprising me and signing up at the last minute.

Teaching a new book workshop with Larry Habegger, who published one of my earliest travel stories back in the day. And our astoundingly talented students. Such an honor!

Obviously, karaoke night. A little intimidating with former Broadway performers in the house, but wildly fun anyway.

Oh and we learned a few things too!
And of course, the pure love and wonder Don George shares with us all. (The world famous Don San 😉has been my inspiration for life and writing since 2003). It’s truly the most joyful weekend of every year.

Timathea said it better than we ever could.

"I've discovered that my best travel superpower is curiosity. When I follow it, I have the best experiences and end up falling deeper in love with the world. It may be as simple as spontaneously choosing which road to walk down, or travelling to a place I've read about to see how it feels to be there in person and breathe its air, or taking time to get to really know a person from a different culture through the lens of sincere interest in the diversity of their ways of living, eating, and celebrating. Curiosity enriches every travel experience."

There is still so much work to be done to break outdated stereotypes about what it means to be a woman over 50.

The travel industry has been slow to catch up. But our community never needed their permission.

Adventurous. Empowered. Curious. That is who we are.

Wasn’t expecting THAT 🙌 90-minute Journaling Workshop with @timathea ✍️

One of the wisest women I’ve ever met leads these journaling sessions that feel…like hypnotherapy. Almost like interactive therapy but FUN (those are breakthrough tears, I promise).

If you need to shake some shit out of your psyche and gain clarity, I highly recommend joining even just one of her sessions.

Plus, I feel like these sessions should be more expensive…but they are only $45 😳

Thank you Timathea for being such a role model and source of strength for me. What you’re doing is so needed, so important and so god damn freeing.

Go to Timathea.com to sign up for her next workshop or reach out to her on IG @timathea

I took 13 women to Baja Sur, Mexico and it went like…

Highlights of the trip:
☀️ Pure girl time
☀️Swimming with whale sharks (still on my GoPro SD of course)
☀️Snorkeling with sea turtles and sea lions
☀️Glamping on a white sand beach in the middle of nowhere.
☀️And did I mention pure girl time?

The women I meet on these trips become part of my family, my girl community. And out here, totally unplugged, after one week you feel like you’ve known each other for a lifetime.

Come us next time?

A reminder to do a friendship audit for 2026.

Something weird has been happening....

The women whom I respect the most have all been saying the same thing: "My circle will be smaller in 2026".

It's as if there has been an awakening of women. No longer tolerating mean girl energy. Women realizing that if someone secretly smiles when you fall, they will never be your friend.

Make room at the table.

Xoxo to the women who have lifted each other up in 2025 - and cheers to the women who will walk into your life in 2026.

We went to @muse.ique Made in Memphis with my parents, Phoebe and Timathea — and wow, what an evening! 🎶✨ Being there in person made it unforgettable: the swelling brass, the soaring voices of LaVance Colley, Chris Pierce, and Sy Smith, the DC6 Singers and MUSE/IQUE Orchestra filling the space with power and soul. You could feel the resilience and courage of Stax Records in every note, the history alive in the music, the rhythm of Memphis pulsing through the room. So wonderful to introduce my friends to this series — it’s more than a concert. It’s a celebration of creativity, courage, and the power of music to move and inspire. Soulful, uplifting, and pure joy. #MuseIque #MadeInMemphis #StaxRecords #SoulMusic #LiveMusicMagic #FamilyNight #LisaNiver #CultureCurious #AmericanStoryThroughMusic #IWasThere WATCH more of the concert: https://youtu.be/NpdmXXaW3oY @caltechedu @caltechevents #discoverla @discoverla @timathea @phoebeppr
