Want more ways to get new books for the library? That was my question at last year’s state library and conference and one presenter suggested creating a wishlist with a local bookstore. Thankfully VHS alumni own Timbre Books which is just down the street from our school and they worked with me on creating a wish list on their website. At back-to-school night, I shared flyers, a QR code and a link to our wish list and within a few weeks our first bag of donated books was delivered! A big thank you to community members, students and their families who are helping our students read more books and updating our collection! #highschoollibrary #schoollibrary #unboxing #bookstagram #indiebookstore

Honestly, one of the best ways to get to know Ventura County is to spend time in its local shops. I put together 7 independent bookstores across Ventura, Camarillo, Ojai, Simi Valley, and Thousand Oaks. Some are great for hunting down a used book, one is outdoors, and one is all about romance. Swipe through, save the addresses, and tell me which one I should check out first. 📚 I’m Josue, a local realtor, and I love sharing more than just homes around here. #VenturaCounty #ShopLocal #IndependentBookstores #VenturaCountyLiving

Two recent reads. Two VERY different reactions. 📚 ⭐ HIGHLY recommend: The Calamity Club by Kathryn Stockett. I absolutely loved this one. It was one of those books I didn’t want to end. I actually took breaks from listening just so I could stretch it out a little longer! And the audiobook? 🎧 Incredible. The narration brings each character to life and made me feel like I was right there in the moment with them. Definitely one I recommend listening to! ❌ Definitely no: Yesteryear. I tried, but I just couldn’t finish it. I found the characters incredibly frustrating and couldn’t connect with any of them. I kept hoping I would get pulled into the story, but it never happened. This one was a disappointment for me and ultimately became a DNF. One I wanted to keep going…and one I couldn’t keep going. 😂 #TheCalamityClub #Yesteryear #AudiobookRecommendation #BookRecommendations #ElevateLiteracyAndLearning

📚 **Reading isn’t just for kids!** I love sharing great books for children, but grown-ups need good books too! ☕️📖 Hi my caffeine and crime scene friends! I have been really trying to expand my reading horizons lately and have been diving into thrillers. On a recent trip to Timbre Books in Ventura, California, I absolutely fell in love with the store! It is so clean and has the exact vibe I want for my own future little library. I was on the hunt for a book by an author unfamiliar to me, specifically something that wasn't already all over the BookTok space. I have to admit, I originally picked up Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia purely because of the cover—it is just so stunning! A lovely employee saw me eyeing it and mentioned how much she loved it, promising I would enjoy it too. So, of course, it came home with me. Set in the 1950s, the story follows Noemí, a wealthy socialite who is used to getting exactly what she wants. She is sent to a remote estate to visit her cousin, who has married into a mysterious family. Once Noemí arrives, she begins having vivid, terrifyingly realistic dreams, and the house itself starts to feel disturbingly alive. It’s up to this glamorous party girl to uncover the dark family secrets and save her cousin before it's too late. This book gave me major The Secret Garden meets A Little Princess—but with a dark, twisted psychological edge. I would definitely recommend checking it out! ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Solid 4/5 stars! Have you read this one yet? What thriller should I pick up next to keep expanding my shelves? 👇 #CaffeineAndCrimeScenes #MexicanGothic #SilviaMorenoGarcia #BookReview #GothicHorror #ThrillerBooks #PsychologicalThriller #TimbreBooks #VenturaCalifornia #IndieBookstore #Bookstagram #ReadersOfInstagram #GothicFiction #BookRecommendations #ThrillerReader #SpookyReads #BookAesthetic
