⚠️Happy Banned Books Week! ⚠️

Now through Saturday, we’re highlighting books that have faced censorship across the country and talking about why advocating for free speech and the freedom to read matters.

What’s a book you’re shocked has been banned or challenged? We were personally confused by James and the Giant Peach….... 🍑🤔 by @timbrebooks

TIMBRE 203 | The Intersection of Sacred & Silly: Poetry, Creativity, Realism, Magic, & Hope

All of these selections deal with the melding of the everyday mundane, tenderness, and hope. A study in silliness, resilience, creativity, and attention. Buoys in turbulent times call for creative community engagement! Kindness and love that do not require ignorance of difficulty, discomfort, and complexity to flourish. An inspiring idea garden!

TIMBRE 202 | Inherited & Created Spaces: How Places Shape Us, and How We Shape Them

How much does the place we live in determine the life we live? This syllabus explores the built environments we inherit, the policies and histories that shaped them, and the communities and ways of living we create within them. From segregation and housing insecurity to walkability, climate change, and the search for meaningful community, these books ask a deceptively simple question: How are we supposed to live in the modern age?

TIMBRE 201 | Goddesses, Monsters, & Mortals: Rewriting the Myths We Inherited

Every myth we were handed in school came from the same vantage point: men writing about men, for men, about the shaping of the “heroes”: Odysseus, Theseus, Agamemnon, Hercules, and so on. And yet these heroes used, abused, and discarded women in order to achieve their goals. Nine times out of ten, they would be nothing without the goddesses who guided them, the “monsters” they slayed, or the women by their sides.

We’ll discuss who is remembered as divine, who is condemned as monstrous, who is praised as a hero and what changes when the silenced finally get the mic.
