Live Sx Acts is an exhibit in Times Square that explores the former sx-clubs of the notorious area from the late 1960s through the mid-1980s. I’m fascinated with Times Square history & the workers who were in the scene. The Rialto Report podcast is perfect resource for those interested in this world. Fuck Giuliani & my dress is vintage Stormy Leather of SF.

LIVE *** ACTS! Scott Ewalt, Vivienne Maricevic, Alix Vernet September 18 - November 15, 2026 Noon -6pm, Thursday through Saturday Times Square Space, 1500 Broadway, New York Enter on West 43rd Street Three artists form an archive of Times Square’s vibrant sex clubs, which were active from the late 1960s through the mid-1980s. There existed a dense, largely self-regulating ecosystem of s**clubs that operated in the space the city had abandoned. None of the works moralize or mythologize; rather, they are records made by artists who understood the value of what they were looking at before it was gone or who have returned to its traces. This exhibition opens at a moment when the political gains of the last several decades are being actively reversed, when bodies, desires, and the spaces that accommodate them are once again subject to legislation and erasure. In that context, an archive of Times Square’s sex culture is not a historical exercise but a reminder that these freedoms were always contingent, always contested, and always worth defending What grew in the clubs was a form of social life: anonymous, cross-class, and largely ungoverned. Crucially, it was where queer life organized itself outside the surveillance of mainstream culture and where art, activism, and sexuality overlapped. The darkened theaters and club backrooms offered freedom from judgment and taboo and, in doing so, created the conditions for a potent subculture. That culture had consequences that are still alive.

You may know that we have been working with the brilliant Tiffany Zabludowicz on an epic exhibition re-animating old Times Square sleaze ghosts. We are almost complete, and it is going to be epic. Vivienne Maricevic, Scott Ewalt and Alix Vernet have all allowed us stewardship of incredible work. Some will make you blush, but the show is full of knowledge! Thank you Laura Ratliff for the pre-press. Link in bio. And please come to the opening on Friday. Dress for disaster. LIVE SEX ACTS! “…The stars are too omnipresent. Their ubiquity seems to beg for the optimism of an outdated ideological model. They form part of a constellation that both encompasses and mimics its own context: Times Square, where commercial overstimulation flashes in the eyes of passers-by and stretches time into eternal light. In the show, one can lament the stars, or rather pity them. Stamped onto images like disruptive impostures, they also stand immobilised by the rigidity of their metal arms, rising between the hooks of the peg rail that lines the office walls. The latter’s design replicates that of the Shakers, for whom form is function. The mantra of this community, whose original denomination was “The United Society of Believers”, has seen its existence reduced to past history. Contemporary yearnings for simple living nevertheless revive its afterlife as an inspiring, albeit infantilised, myth. Works such as Amateur Peg Rail Project (chrome yellow), Stock Image (Shaker village with rainbow) and Shaker Museum operate as mises en abyme of this loss and its ambivalent power of fascination...” - text by @heloisechasse 💛 Co-curricular Activities Mosh Pit (Rock My Religion) Window x Fence Country Life Historic American Buildings Survey (shadow) Black & Neon (diptych) Amateur Peg Rail Project (chrome yellow) Amateur Peg Rail Project (red ochre) Black & White Stars SOCIETY OF BELIEVERS Form = Function Historic American Buildings Survey (chrome green) Stock Image (Shaker village with rainbow) HARDCORE with Stars Shaker Museum Open by appointment at @timessquarespace For enquires and appointments get in touch with gallery@maxradfordgallery.com @maxradfordgallery x @monna.maison
