Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift.. that’s why it is called the present..

Thank you @burtonsnowboards @burton , @donnacarpenter @george_burton_carpenter , @taylor_carpenter13 and @timiburton77 for this gift and for being such a big part of my life.

So much of what I have came from standing sideways on a board. Confidence. Friendships. Skills. The courage to dream bigger. A way to work through the hard stuff and find some joy again.

But mostly, it’s the people. The trips, the jokes, the high fives, the falls, and the moments we’re still laughing about years later.

I’m grateful I found snowboarding as a kid. And grateful that people all over the world keep falling in love with that same feeling. Different places, different lives, connected by something we love.

Happy 50th, Burton. Thank you for all of it.

AROUND THE WORD N BACK WITH @burtonsnowboards 🌎🛩️🌎🛩️

As Burton celebrates 50 years, we were honored to receive a Backhill modeled after the board that started it all, and a handwritten letter recognizing Hoods to Woods.

For us, that letter meant just as much as the board.

As hip-hop was taking shape on the blocks of New York City, Jake Burton Carpenter was in Vermont, building snowboards by hand and betting everything on an idea the world did not yet understand.

Different worlds, same spirit: use what you have, create what does not exist, and keep building before others see the vision.

Hip-hop turned breakbeats, neighborhood stories, and raw creativity into a global culture. Jake turned wood, bindings, determination, and riding sideways into a global culture of its own.

Nobody at those early Bronx parties could have imagined how b-boys and b-girls would transform the break through spins, freezes, and aerial moves. Likewise, Jake could not have imagined every possibility riders like Craig Kelly would unlock on his boards.

That is the power of culture. Someone creates an opening, and the next generation takes it somewhere even the originators could not have imagined.

Omar and I were raised by hip-hop and shaped by that belief. We carried it from the blocks to the mountains, and that spirit built Hoods to Woods.

We did not wait for our communities to be invited into snowboarding. We built a bridge and brought them with us.

That is why snowboarding is so dope. Kids from every hood can step in, make it their own, and take it somewhere none of us can imagine yet.

History is not only made by who builds the first board, but by who gets invited to ride the next one.

Thank you to Donna Carpenter, George, Taylor, Timi, and the Burton family and team for this piece of history and your support of our mission.

And to the late, great Jake Burton Carpenter, thank you for believing there was a sport here before the world could see it. We know what it means to believe in a vision before everyone else can see it.

We’re proud to be part of what came next.

From the blocks to the mountains. 🏂

This one really got me.

For @burton’s 50th anniversary, a Backhill showed up at my door — together with a handwritten letter signed “Timi and the Carpenter Family.”

Holding that board brought back a lot of memories.

Burton was never just a sponsor to me. From day one, it was a family. I was a young snowboarder from Bavaria when Jake gave me a chance, and I had no idea where that would take me.

I had travelled the world, ridden mountains I’d only dreamed about, made lifelong friends and learned more about snowboards — and life — than I could ever have imagined.

I sometimes call Burton my high school of life. And Jake was one of the best teachers you could possibly have.

He taught me to question things, listen to riders, obsess over details and never stop trying to make things better. I probably carry more of those lessons with me today than I realize.

But when I look back now, it’s not the contests or results that come to mind first. It’s the people.

Jake, Donna, Craig, Jean, Hermann and so many others. The trips, the conversations, the laughs, the arguments, the endless discussions about boards. Some of those people I haven’t seen in decades. Others I still sit down for a coffee with whenever I pass through Innsbruck.

That’s probably the best part: so many of those connections are still there.

And I’m grateful for the “guardians of history” like @tkohlman, @copevt and many others who keep the old boards, photos and stories alive. Because as snowboarding keeps moving forward, I think it’s important that the next generation knows where all of this came from — and who helped make it happen.

So, thank you, Burton.

For the Backhill, of course.

But much more importantly, for the family, the education, the friendships and a pretty incredible chapter of my life.

Happy 50th. ❤️

And no, this one won’t be gathering dust in the barn.

It sure is an honor to receive number 350 of 350 of these boards. Thank you @burtonsnowboards and the whole crew for sending one of these our way. It’s safe to say, like so many have already, that snowboarding wouldn’t be the same without this board any everything Jake did for this lifestyle. Snowboarding changed my life and can only assume it did for so many of you that follow us, so it’s truly an honor to hold this piece of history. Crossing our fingers for just a normal winter here in Montana, but either way we hope everyone makes the best of it wherever you are.
