GOODWOOD REVIVAL 2026 – zum dritten Mal ein Traum! 🏁✨

Was für Tage!

Goodwood Revival. Mehr als Motorsport Ein Gefühl. ❤️

Today’s @goodwoodrevival sketches - it’s a very lovely Maserati 300s and I carried on with the gorgeous Jaguar D Type. The latter is the 1955 Le Mans winning car. The former is just a stunner! Really nice to be sketching live once again, and people have been so nice and encouraging, and saying how good it is to have the scribbling vicar scribbling once again - it means a lot. Thank you.

Mr. Tim Layzell’s artwork at The Oberoi Concours d’Elegance 2026 reflects a rare understanding of automotive form and heritage, where movement, detail and history are rendered with quiet precision and depth.

Through his compositions for the 2026 edition, he brought together Indian royal legacy and global motoring history in a way that felt both evocative and considered, aligning seamlessly with the spirit of the event.

There’s nothing quite like this place or this event: the surrounding streets are a cacophony of tuk-tuks, overladen motorbikes and colourful Indian chaos, but once you’re inside the grounds of the hotel it’s an oasis worthy of a movie set. The Oberoi is a concours d’elegance imagined by petrolhead Arjun Oberoi, the energetic chairman of the family hotel group, as the best of western organisation and local heritage and hospitality. Curator Mavendra Barwani and his son Siddhraj, who were behind the old Cartier concours held here, have the challenge of persuading proud Indian owners to awaken treasures slumbering in palace motor houses and local restorers to finish projects on time, which seems to somehow happen miraculously even though they only started months before.

Best of Show went to a 1939 Bentley 4 1/4 Drophead by HJ Mulliner (gifted to a Maharani for her wedding) and for the motorbikes, a 1943 BSA which served with the Indian army in Burma, an appropriate reminder of their sacrifice in WW2. It had been restored locally and judge Giacomo Agostini (yes, the 15x World Champion rider) told me it was as good as any he’d seen, down to the canvas hand grips as rubber was rationed. Another Maharajah brought out the 300SL Roadster his father had raced when new- the only one in India- against unlikely opposition from a Lancia Flaminia saloon owned back then by the same Italian expat who later took delivery of a 275 GTB/C here (it famously arrived on an ox cart).

So many cool backstories, resplendent guests in Indian formal wear, clear blue skies and friendly visitors eager to learn more. The crowd is noticeably younger than in the west: the average age of the restorers who prepped the cars is 35. The overall vibe avoided feeling corporate and I never heard ‘investing in cars’ or even values mentioned all weekend. Cars remaining in one family for a century are not unheard of here, bad for business (!) but great for the cars themselves which really look at home in this context. An exotic, picture perfect motoring postcard I highly recommend sampling for yourself.

We are honoured to welcome back @timlayzell as the Concours Artist for The Oberoi Concours d’Elegance 2026.

Mr. Layzell’s work occupies a distinctive place in automotive art, where motion is rendered with elegance and history is treated with quiet reverence.

His new poster, created exclusively for this edition, brings together Indian royal heritage and international motoring history in a single, evocative composition.

Set against the timeless grandeur of The Oberoi Udaivilas, Udaipur - the 2026 edition promises an extraordinary celebration of design, craftsmanship and legacy.
