Another new original painting on the wall @goodwoodrevival

‘Peak Grand Prix’ - Monaco Grand Prix 1969

Although new, this painting is already sold! However, I do have signed limited edition prints available. Please message me to reserve one, or come to my stand to purchase and take home if you’re at Goodwood!

Acrylic on canvas, hand painted.

The history of motorsport follows a pattern of engineers developing faster and faster cars while the authorities do what they can to slow them down. The 1.5 litre formula of 1961-65 produced some close racing and some pretty cars but they were underpowered and unspectacular. The advent of the 3 litre formula was heralded as a “return to power”, with the cars of the _garagiste_ using Climax, Repco and Cosworth V8 power ranged against the thoroughbred V12 cars from BRM, Matra and Ferrari. Following the stormy exit of John Surtees from the team mid-way through 1966, Kiwi Chris Amon established himself as the Scuderia’s star driver over the following 3 seasons. In various configurations, the 440bhp V12 312 proved competitive with Chris always somewhere near the front of the grid, jousting with Clark, Brabham, Hill, Stewart and Rindt. When the cars arrived at Monaco in ‘69 they had been shorn of the short-lived but ridiculous high wings which had failed so spectacularly at Montjuich Park a week earlier, making way for make-do-and-mend flicks of aluminium across the top of the engine. Amon qualified second only to Stewart and diced for the lead before both cars retired with mechanical issues. Chris Amon took the start of 96 grands prix, usually somewhere near the front but was perennially unlucky - he stood on the podium 11 times but never the top step; undoubtedly the greatest driver never to win a Grand Prix. Here he crests the rise from St Devote and heads towards Massenet and Casino Square beyond, chased by the Gold Leaf Team Lotus 49 Cosworth of Graham Hill who would take advantage of Chris’s inevitable misfortune to win his 5th and Final Monaco Grand Prix.

Today I’ll be heading to @goodwoodrevival for my annual exhibition there, in my usual spot, next to @robustohousecigars in the main paddock on the left of the Earl’s Court building.

I’ll have a few new things to see, including this new original painting of Le Mans 1971. It’s the only completed original piece that I have for sale, everything else is sold, with a two + year wait for commissioned work. (I will also have an incomplete piece on my easel at Goodwood of Moss 722).

It’s sized 24” x 20” plus the frame. Hand painted in acrylic paint, brush on canvas. No AI here!

Please feel free to message for more information or to reserve. If you’re at the event, please come by and say hello for a chat 😎

‘Chasing Lights’

V12 or Flat 12? You decide; either would be a ticket to a 230mph blast down the Mulsanne Straight. Can-Am and Interserie aside, 1971 was the last hurrah for the big 5 litre Group 5 sports prototypes exemplified by the Porsche 917 and Ferrari 512. This was a period of serious racing cars paired with iconic liveries - the blue and orange of Gulf-backed JWA Porsches ranged against the blue, red and white of the quasi-works cars of the Martini Racing Team and the navy and yellow of the NART Penske-Sunoco Ferrari 512. The Sunoco 512 of Mark Donohue and David Hobbs was the quickest Ferrari in practice and proved incredibly fast early in the race, seen here alongside the white Martini 917 of eventual winners Gijs van Lennep and Helmut Marko, as both chase the long-tailed 917 of Vic Elford and Gerard Larrousse into the shadows of Saturday evening.

New EV… @renaultuk 5
The Skoda was sent back after a fairly big breakdown after just four weeks, and this is the replacement we went for, which is much nicer actually. Love it! So nice to drive, with really communicative steering and a general feeling of lightness, which is surprising for an electric car. Went for the techno as I like the wheels and love the interior. Feels small ish for a new car even though very few cars are actually small now.

Loving the bold colour.

Overall, really pleased and couldn’t recommend it highly enough so far!

Loads of amazing cars on the @pebblebeachconcours tour! The fabulous Osca and a very original racing Mercedes Gullwing.
I’m always drawn to @ferrari though. There’s nothing really like 1950s and 60s Ferraris. From the fabulous flat blue 250 SWB, the 275 GTB/C, GTO and 330 LMB. A lot of boxes ticked.

And yes, that is rain. I’m in California and it’s raining. The irony of leaving a dry, hot UK to wet California.

The SOUND!!

For Sale… my 1965 BMW 1800 Ti/SA, for less than you probably think. Grab a bargain and get on one of the best grids in racing, the St Mary’s Trophy.

Open to part exchange with money either way.. let me know what you’ve got! Classic road or racing car 😊

A well known car, with many Goodwood entries. Top spec, everything fresh just before the last Members’ Meeting (2025) including engine, gearbox, diff, steering box rebuild plus post race check/service, not raced it since. New seat, belts and fuel tank 2024 (1 test & 1 race since). Recent HTP until 2035. 12th at Goodwood MM 2025. It’s fastest lap at Goodwood is 1.32.7 so it is a competitive car, especially with the Cortinas & Minis being reigned in a bit recently.

Previously raced at and shared drives at Goodwood Revival/MM/Speedweek by Marino Franchitti, Andy Priaulx, was there to share with Christian Horner in 2024 at Revival, but didn’t start, hence the engine rebuild - as it happened it was just a head gasket warming it up but it was rebuilt following that. Eddie Cheever also raced it at Revival & another race or two there also before my ownership. Tested by Goodwood Lap Record holder Nick Padmore who got out after a session and said ‘don’t touch it, I love it’, it’s SO much fun to drive, and sounds AMAZING.

A VERY cool car, crowd pleaser as it looks so period and different to the many Cortinas & minis. Super tidy and smart as you see in the pics.

All recent work done by TTP and Retro Engineering BMW specialists.

3 sets of wheels with one brand new unused set of tyres, labels still on.

It literally is ready to go, not like some who say they are, needs absolutely nothing. It’s a bit hard to sell it when everything is so fresh but as I say, keen to move on.

Price - please message or text, but I’m pretty flexible and open to sensible offers, cheaper than you might think, or a possible part ex for classic road car- let me know what you have!

On this video a lot from the start until 6 mins 30 secs

Built as a racing car by Laranca - they knew how to build these cars! It was originally registered in Finland which is why I have Finnish plates on it for show.

In the mid 1970s, sportscar racing was in the doldrums. Matra won the World Championship for Makes in 1974 almost unopposed with Ferrari having abandoned the category to focus on Formula One while Porsche was in transition, focussed on wringing more and more performance from the relatively humble underpinnings of the 911. Meanwhile, production based GT categories provided an outlet for a mixture of amateur and professional drivers, the spirit of which endures to the present day. Here, at Le Mans the Porsche Carrera RSR of Herbert Muller and Gijs Van Lennep leads the Ferrari Daytona of Cyril Grandet and Dominique Bardini (which finished 5th overall and won the GT Class) and the BMW 3.0 CSL of Hean Claude Aubriet and “Depnic” which won the Touring Class. While the Ferrari and BMW were pukka production-based GT cars, the Porsche’s Turbo technology had not yet found its way to the road cars so it ran in the 3.0 sports class finishing second overall. It would give rise to the 911 Turbo road car and the even more specialist 911-based 935 cars which would go on to win Le Mans outright in 1979 and which helped to shape Porsche’s Turbo legend.

Now available as a Limited Edition Print and available to view and purchase @goodwoodrrc 83rd Members’ Meeting.

If you can’t get to Goodwood this weekend, please feel free to message to purchase and reserve a copy.

Taken from my original acrylic on canvas painting - no AI or computers involved in my work.

‘The Out of School Club’

When Jo Siffert won the 1970 Targa Florio, sportscar racing was the thing - of equal prominence to F1 - attracting big manufacturers and great drivers alike. Siffert was one of the best - so good that alongside paying him to drive their sportscars, Porsche bankrolled his F1 drive with March to prevent him defecting to arch-rival Ferrari. Palermo school teacher Nino Vaccarella was not quite in Siffert’s league but living in Sicily allowed him to do a 72km practice lap of the Madonie circuit each evening after work. Local knowledge only took Nino so far, as he battled to bring the big Ferrari 512S into contention with the ultimately victorious lightweight 908/3 of Siffert and Redman, but ultimately finished third. Vaccarella won his beloved Targa the following year and again in ‘75 to add to his ‘65 triumph. He also won Le Mans in ‘64 demonstrating that local knowledge was not the only tool in his armoury. Those who can, do; those who can’t, teach....?

Limited to just 450 signed and numbered prints.

Giclée Print on extremely high quality 300gsm paper.

There is a choice of sizes -

New Limited Edition Print of Sir Stirling Moss and Denis Jenkinson on their way to winning the 1955 Mille Miglia. Perhaps the greatest drive of all time?!?!

From an original painting (no AI!!)
Now available to purchase at Goodwood Members’ Meeting this weekend. You can also reserve by messaging on here, email or text. If you have a desired print number, just let me know!

Available in two image size options -

Standard 36.4 x 50cm
Large 43.6 x 60cm

‘On a Mission’

Stirling Moss charges through the Abruzzi mountains towards Rome and the half way point of the 1955 Mille Miglia. Moss’ virtuoso performance to take perhaps his greatest victory was a combination of his skill, the ruggedness of the Mercedes 300SLR and the bravery of his passenger Denis Jenkinson. ‘Jenks’ had been a conscientious objector during the war but any accusation of cowardice would be wide of the mark; he rode sidecars for Eric Oliver to take the World Championship in 1949 before taking up writing full time becoming, simply, ‘DSJ’ to thousands of readers who hung on his every word in the pages of Motor Sport. His June ‘55 report – _With Moss In The Mille Miglia_ - recounted, first hand, his experience of the maestro at work. In fact, Jenks made a significant contribution to victory, battling motion sickness and losing a pair of spectacles to the constant buffeting of the wind at 175 miles per hour, he guided Moss throughout by reading from a roll of paper encased in aluminium on which the pair had recorded hazards and details of the 1,000 mile route. There were few braver than Denis Sargent Jenkinson...

New Original Painting on display @goodwoodrrc #83MM Please feel free to message or ask for details.

‘Climbing high’

Size 20” x 24” plus frame.

For some people the words _Tour de France_ mean Lycra, fanatical fans and the dulcet tones of Gary Imlach….. For those with a slightly longer memory, they mean a 5,000 km charge on asphalt and gravel roads around rural France aboard a twin cam Alfa, a gullwing Mercedes or a V12 Ferrari. Even by the standards of the 50s and 60s, this was a serious endurance test - held over 8 days and taking in both hillclimbs and circuits including Spa-Francorchamps, Le Mans, the Nurburgring and Rouen. The 1960 event was won by “wild” Willy Mairesse while the Ferrari 250 GT SWB of Jo Schlesser and Dumay finished second. The SWB’s blend of performance and rugged mechanicals made it the perfect companion for this, perhaps the ultimate test of man and machine.
