Introducing: EL PORTÓN — Artifact No. 001

When we moved to San Miguel de Allende, we fell in love with something we didn’t expect.

The doors.

Walk these old streets and you’ll understand. Massive wooden doors. Ironwork darkened by time. Heavy knockers polished by generations of hands. Nothing perfectly straight. Nothing trying to look new.

And somehow, that’s exactly what makes them beautiful.

San Miguel has been shaped by centuries of architecture, craft and cultures meeting one another—from Mexican Baroque to Neo-Gothic—and today its historic center is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Even the extraordinary old woodwork of San Miguel’s doors is part of that story; UNESCO’s nomination materials specifically call out the skill of the city’s historic craftsmen and the detailed relief work found on its colonial doors.

El Portón was born from that.

Each open silver panel echoes those great old doors.

The heavy connecting links remind us of the knockers and ironwork.

And look closely: no two panels are exactly alike.

That isn’t an accident.

There was no rigid template. Each component was formed, hammered and worked by hand. We deliberately left the tool marks, irregularities and deep, almost gothic patina in the silver.

Because perfection would have ruined it.

The darkness gives the silver its soul.

El Portón is handmade in San Miguel de Allende from .950 silver. It’s substantial, architectural and unmistakably handmade.

Not jewelry made to disappear quietly onto your wrist.

An artifact.

This is El Portón No. 001.
One heirloom. $875 USD.

If it speaks to you, DM us to acquire it.

We’ll send you a private payment link, and you can pay in full or choose 4 payments. Once it’s yours, we’ll carefully package it and send you the tracking information.

And then this little piece of San Miguel begins a completely different story.

Yours.

From our heart and hands to yours. 💙

Sorry, friends — we were all set to go LIVE today, but our Wi-Fi had other plans. 😬

So… Plan B. And we actually kinda love it.

We filmed everything anyway. 🎥

Over the next three posts, we’ll show you what we pulled from the collection for September, October & November.

About 60 one-of-one silver artifacts.
Handmade in Mexico. 🇲🇽
Some have been tucked away for decades.

Beginning in September, we’ll release them one at a time, every couple of days.

See one you love? DM us here on Instagram or Facebook. First one to claim it gets it.

No restocks. No duplicates. When it’s gone, it’s gone.

Watch the video. 👆

We’re walking down to José’s shop. And today feels a little different. 🤍

We’ve been telling you about these pieces, the bench, the stones and the stories behind them.

Today, you’re coming with us.

José is opening up his collection and Stephanie and I have the almost impossible job of choosing 60 one-of-one pieces to share with you over the next four months.

15 for September.
15 for October.
15 for November.
15 for December.

Rings. Pendants. 925 and 950 silver. Old stones. New discoveries. Pieces made by José—and some made decades ago by his father, Enrique.

And we honestly don’t know what we’re going to find.

So come inside with us.

Here it is! The Collection by José. 🎉

If you’ve been following our journey, this is it. A private stash of special designs José has held onto for years, now shared piece by piece.

Each one comes with its full backstory: WHO made it, WHY it was created, WHAT it means, WHERE the stone came from, all downloaded directly from José here at the bench.

Some pieces were made by José, some even by his father Enrique, each handmade, each only 1-of-1. We’ll release one piece every few days, all handmade in 925 or 950 sterling silver. And the process to get the one you want is super simple👇

1️⃣ DM us to claim it…
2️⃣ We’ll send you a payment link — pay with a card or four payments, whichever is easiest for you...
3️⃣ Your item is sent to you with FREE shipping and a tracking number…
4️⃣ You receive your once-in-a-lifetime artifact with an amazing story of origin! 🎉

That’s it! Nice and easy. No big company, just Stephanie and I, making it personal and as affordable as possible.

Once a piece is posted, it’s available. Like Cooper at breakfast, as soon as his dish lands, his chow-chow is gone. So, don’t hesitate if you love it. There won’t be another.

👉 Don’t forget tomorrow’s video of the entire fall collection of artifacts! It’s going to be awesome.

*Cooper approved this by chewing up the packing tape, and ole Maxi slept right through it. 🐾

Perfectly imperfect, just like us!

Twelve pieces, and a stash José never wanted to let go of. Today he finally did. These have been sitting in his workshop for who knows how long, each one carrying some memory or story only he really knows, and honestly we’re still getting some of them out of him.

We’re putting all twelve up on our new little website, link in the bio, because we’d rather you have them on your hand than us have them in a drawer.

We’re nothing fancy, no big company, no ‘money bags’ behind the scene, just Stephanie and I trying to keep this as simple and as affordable as we can, so more of you can actually own one. Card or split it into four payments, either way, shipping’s on us! 🙌

Every piece is one of one, so once it’s gone, it’s really gone.

Cooper approved this message by chewing on the packing tape. Old Maxi mostly slept through it. Standard Tuesday here in San Miguel. 💙🐾

Bench life. 🔨🔥

Where silver gets hammered, shaped, scratched, polished—and slowly becomes something worth wearing.

No factory line. No shortcuts. Just hands, tools, time, and a little beautiful mess.

Made at the bench. Made to be lived in.
