@scenenoise: For decades, Beirut has been one of the Middle East’s most vibrant and culturally significant nightlife hubs. Yet, amid relentless economic turbulence, political instability and an ongoing exodus of creative talent, the city’s celebrated music ecosystem has faced mounting pressure.

At Amsterdam Dance Event 2026, SceneNoise brought these tensions to the fore with a panel titled ‘Beirut Keeps Moving: How Lebanon’s Electronic Music Scene Survives & Evolves’. Moderated by SceneNoise founder Timmy Mowafi, the discussion brought together Tala Mortada (Co-Founder & CCO of Factory People), James Khoury (Co-Founder & CEO of Hot Axis) and artist Rolbac.

Rather than framing Beirut’s electronic music scene solely through the lens of survival, the conversation explored its capacity for adaptation, artistic resilience and global ambition. From reworking homegrown concepts to sustain local communities to carrying Beirut’s sound onto international dancefloors, the panel examined how the city’s cultural identity continues to travel beyond its borders.

At the heart of the discussion was the tension between preserving the raw, uncompromising ethos of Beirut’s underground and navigating the commercial realities of the global music industry. As Lebanese creators establish stronger footholds abroad, the challenge is not simply to make space for themselves internationally, but to carry Beirut’s distinct cultural identity, history and sense of community with them.

@CairoScene: What allows a story to outlive its telling? Narrative Summit 2026 in Somabay closed its tenth edition with “Whatever Will They Say About Us,” a conversation between Vogue Global Editor at Large Hamish Bowles and MO4 Network CEO Amy Mowafi, two people professionally acquainted with the manufacture of cultural memory.

Mowafi, raised on the fashion imagery Bowles helped create, took him back to 1989. At 23, he was fashion director of Harper’s & Queen, travelling, as he recalled, “through fair means or foul,” from Peru and Brazil to Palm Beach and Egypt. A Red Sea shoot with Gisele Bündchen became a glorious escapade, food poisoning included. Egypt kept drawing him back: after joining Vogue in 1992, he would sail the Nile aboard a dahabiya. Such budgets have largely vanished. Fashion photography, they observed, has traded dream worlds for enhanced reality, though Bowles finds the possibilities of modernity no less seductive.

A collector of costumes before adolescence, Bowles won Vogue’s talent competition at 14 and chose art school over Oxford. “I invented myself and became what I invent,” he said. Even social media, once an object of suspicion, has become, to him, “a wonderful arena.” Asked about his 2022 stroke and its assault on a life steeped in memory, he spoke of his determination to move forward.

His enduring ambition? To see his collection exhibited at the Yves Saint Laurent Museum. His latest preoccupation? The new Tom Ford collection.

@SceneNoise #NoiseNews: For decades, while the global narrative around electronic music centred on established Western capitals, scenes across the Arab world, particularly in Egypt and Lebanon, have had to chart a different course. Across Cairo, Beirut, and beyond, electronic music ecosystems have developed not because of ideal conditions, but in spite of them.

At Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) 2026, SceneNoise will host two panel discussions at Felix Meritis on October 24th, moderated by SceneNoise founder Timmy Mowafi. Both sessions will examine how key players in Egypt and Lebanon continue to build culture, navigate systemic hurdles, and bring homegrown movements to the international stage.

The first panel, ‘Egypt’s Electronic Music Scene: Building Culture Without the Infrastructure’, will explore how Egypt’s scene operates amid venue shortages, uneven infrastructure, and a nightlife economy divided between commercial spectacles and underground communities. Panellists will discuss shifting audiences, evolving promoter networks, the global reach of Egyptian sounds, and what it takes to build a sustainable ecosystem. Speakers include Zeina (DJ/producer & Founder, Unfamiliar), Aly Goede (DJ & Head Artist Booking, Nacelle ), and Ahmed Ganzoury (Founder & CEO, GNK Group and Human Figures).

The second panel, ‘Beirut Keeps Moving: How Lebanon’s Electronic Music Scene Survives & Evolves’, will explore how Beirut’s scene navigates economic pressure, political instability, and the displacement of talent and venue operators. The discussion will examine exporting Lebanese club concepts abroad, sustaining local communities, balancing underground integrity with commercial survival, and creating pathways onto the global circuit. Speakers include Tala Mortada (DJ & Co-founder, Grand Factory), James Khoury (Co-founder & CEO, Hot Axis), and Rolbac (DJ/producer).

Another @scenenoise x @wslaexperience, another memorable night that started around the table and ended with considerably fewer people sitting down.

For our third edition at @ceryle.eg, @coolcat_experience brought everyone together over an experiential five-course dinner, with Youla easing us into the evening. Alia Nour and Nour Fahmy then took over the listening bar, before Omar Fayyad carried us into the early hours.

Good music, beautiful food, familiar faces and plenty of new ones. Exactly the sort of connections we started WSLA for.

WSLA returns to @ceryle.eg this Friday, September 18th, starting with a sit-down dinner by COOLCAT, soundtracked by an ambient set from Youla. From 8PM, Alia Nour and Nour Fahmy take over for the listening bar - quality sound, extended sets and plenty of space to listen, talk and connect. Then from midnight, Omar Fayyad takes over as things naturally get a little more party.

SceneNoise and WSLA Experience have invited one of Cairo’s most elusive supper clubs to cook beside the Nile. On September 18th, Cool Cat Experience will take over the opening chapter of their latest night at Ceryle in Maadi with a secret five-course menu.

Founded by chef Hazem Abdel Ghany, Ali Abu El Ezz and Yasmin Mahrous, Cool Cat has built its following through more than 20 pop-ups and over 200 original recipes. Its format borrows from omakase - guests arrive without choosing what they will eat and place the evening in the hands of the kitchen. At Ceryle, all five courses will remain undisclosed until they are served. Youla, a Cairo-based selector, will accompany the meal with an ambient set.

“We’re asking people to trust us to make the best food we can, so they can forget the everyday burden of deciding what to eat,” Abdel Ghany tells #SceneEats.

Building on SceneNoise and WSLA’s earlier jazz-kissa-inspired listening sessions at Ceryle, this edition begins at the table before gradually turning its attention towards the dance floor. At 8 PM, Alia Nour and Cairo house and techno mainstay Nour Fahmy take over the listening bar for extended sets through Ceryle’s audiophile sound system. At midnight, Egyptian DJ and producer Omar Fayyad, a longtime fixture of Dubai’s underground scene, brings the evening to a close with an intimate party.

From the late-night chats that went on way too long to the crazy nights out and the quiet, easy moments in between every single second was made by the people. I came into this expecting good views, but I’m leaving with a phone full of memories, a heart full of gratitude, and a whole new family.
To everyone I chilled with, laughed with, and partyed with: thank you for making this unforgettable. Saying goodbye is hard, but knowing I made friends for life makes it a whole lot easier.
