Running for yourself is a beautiful thing.
Running for others is even more beautiful.

But most beautiful? When it's both. Running in, for, and toward a community that values you for who you are individually AND who we're becoming together.

Ultra Odyssey is that community, built around a shared love of distance running, adventure, and connection across made-up enemy lines that we refuse to let divide us.

Twelve runners will be selected for Iraq 200: four stages and 200km across the ancient roads and passes of Iraqi Kurdistan, finishing in the Erbil Marathon alongside thousands of local runners.

Applications open November 1. Link in bio.

200km. Four stages. One ancient land.

Stage 1, The Canyon Pass: 50km Soran (Iranian border) via Rwanduz Gorge to Spelik.
Stage 2, The Desert Highway: 58km from Spelik to Shaqlawa.
Stage 3, The Mountain Descent: 50km from Shaqlawa down to Erbil, finishing at the ancient Citadel.
Stage 4, The Ancient Marathon: the Erbil City Marathon, 42km alongside thousands of local runners.

After 158km of canyon, desert, and mountain, you don’t cross the finish line alone. Your last 42km is a celebration, into a local marathon run through one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities on earth.

Seven days in Iraqi Kurdistan. Twelve places. Full route and application details at the link in bio.

Good things happen when we move together.

We call the great shifts in history “movements,” and most of them began with people going somewhere together. Civil rights marchers crossed Alabama on foot. Suffragettes paraded through city streets. Pilgrims have walked toward change for as long as there have been roads.

Mark Twain put it plainly: “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.”
Move your body, change your surroundings, and something in you opens up.

On Iraq 100, we felt it. Everyone was changed, from the lead runner to the camera crew and even the local fixers, who kept every stage running smoothly.

For some of us it was a return to Iraq after years away, a chance to close the loop and even heal. For others it was a first visit, a chance to trade stereotypes for real people and places.

For all of us, it was transformation through motion, across landscapes as brutal as they are beautiful.

Iraq 200, October 2027. Want to be changed for the better? Go. Link in bio.

You’ve never shared in a run like this.

200km on foot across Iraqi Kurdistan: from the Iranian border, over the Zagros Mountains, to the ancient Citadel of Erbil. Rugged country, deep history, and a community you’ll run every step with.

“I didn’t come back to Iraq as a humanitarian. I came back as a runner to retrace the same paths my refugee friends fled along. I chose to run for those who were forced to run.” — Tim Buxton, Director, Ultra Odyssey

In 2025, a small team ran Iraq 100 in honour of the people who fled ISIS. Every one of them, from runners to local guides to the camera crew, came home changed.

Over the coming months we’ll share that story. Then we’re inviting you into the next one: Iraq 200, October 2027. Twelve places, a few are already spoken for.

Applications open 1 November, or comment below and we’ll be in touch.

He landed in Iraq with a 9-week-old baby, a 1-year-old, a 2-year-old, and everything he owned.
On that same day, ISIS took Mosul.
Two million people fled.
And Tim Buxton decided to stay. 🎙️

Most of us scroll past the headlines.
Tim moved his family into them.
Not because he was fearless.
But because he was called.
And what happened over the next three and a half years — the midnight escapes, the fathers whose daughters were taken by ISIS, the micro-villages built from nothing, the weight of carrying two million stories — will completely shift the way you see the world.

This episode wrecked us. In the best possible way.
We talk about:
→ Growing up in the jungles of Papua and why it wired him differently
→ The Yazidi people — a genocide the world barely noticed
→ What compassion fatigue actually does to your body
→ Why he came home broken, drove Uber at 2am, and found his purpose again
→ The organisation he built to help refugees belong in Australia
→ Why a stranger is just a friend you haven’t met yet

“There’s something inside every one of us that we just have to do.
Most of us don’t have the guts to step out and have a go.”
This is that episode that makes you put your phone down and ask yourself what you’re really doing with your one life.

Today we had the privilege of hosting student leaders from @miamistatehigh, led by Principal Clint Curran, for a special visit to You Belong’s programs in the Toowoomba community. ❤️

Students joined our English classes at Glenvale State School, visited with newly arrived families in their homes, exchanged gifts and welcome bags, and experienced firsthand the power of community, hospitality and belonging.

As always, we were deeply inspired by the resilience, courage and generosity of the women in our English program. Despite all they have journeyed through, they continue to welcome others with such warmth, joy and hope.

It was also wonderful to have the Toowoomba Chronicle visit to interview one of our program participants for a special Mother’s Day feature running this weekend.

Days like today are such an important reminder of the incredible volunteers, staff and community members who quietly make a huge difference every single week.

Thank you to Miami SHS for making the journey to Toowoomba. This visit was the continuation of a long learning journey together around the refugee experience, inclusion and community — and today was a beautiful opportunity to bring that learning to life.

Because everyone belongs. 🌏

There are some people who leave a mark that’s hard to put into words… and Kinda Flaha is one of them.

For over three years, Kinda has been a driving force behind so much of what You Belong is today. From standing on stages and courageously sharing her story, to representing our community with warmth, strength, and authenticity — she has helped shape not just programs, but people.

Kinda’s journey from Syria to Toowoomba is one of resilience and hope, but it’s what she’s done with that journey that has been so powerful. She’s been a catalyst for connection — especially for women and newly arrived families — through initiatives like Cook to Connect and the Good Neighbour Initiative. Spaces where strangers became friends, and where belonging wasn’t just spoken about… it was felt.

Her energy is something you don’t forget. Joyful, generous, full of life — the kind of presence that lifts a room and draws people in. So many in our community have felt seen, welcomed, and encouraged because of Kinda.

And behind it all is her beautiful family — Yamin and little Ibrahim — who have shared in this journey and been part of the story in such a special way.

While it’s incredibly hard to say goodbye, it’s also exciting to see what’s ahead. If the past few years are anything to go by, there’s no doubt Kinda will continue to create impact wherever she goes.

Kinda, thank you. For your courage, your leadership, your laughter, and your love for this community.

You’ll always be part of the @youbelongorg story. 💛

2025 ✅

Grateful for the greatest year.

Grateful to be surrounded by authentic, real human beings. Consistently.

Grateful for new opportunities, and open doors, and even more grateful for the doors that close.

Grateful for new adventures no matter how scary they seem.
Life starts when you say yes.

I’m extremely blessed to have an incredible wife, family and friends around me that are willing to be honest, willing to keep me accountable, and support me through life’s inconveniences. To laugh with, to run with, to cry with. It’s the greatest gift of all.
Thankyou Jesus!

2026 is gonna be a boot scootin sechuan.
Stay tuned.

🏃‍♂️ 2025 RUN RECAP 🏃‍♂️
Because apparently “just going for a jog” escalated quickly… 😅

📊 3,850km of moving forward
⏱️ Countless early mornings, late finishes, and “why am I doing this?” moments
❤️ Zero regrets

4 big dance floors this year:
🏔️ UTA100 = humbled, tested, grateful
🐘 Elephant Miler = long, wild, and unforgettable
🏜️ Iraq100 = perspective, changing miles
🌊➡️🏔️ Coast to Kosci 240 = because normal distances are overrated

This year wasn’t about chasing numbers; it was about showing up, staying curious, and finishing what I started. Some runs were smooth, others were pure survival mode… but every step added something to the story.

Big love to everyone who shared miles, messages, support, and belief along the way. Running might look solo…but it’s never done alone.

Here’s to movement, durability, and finishing strong; whatever that looks like for you.
Bring on 2026 👊

Podcast Journey – One Year In 🎙️

Grateful for the opportunity and already one year into this journey with the One Percenters Performance Podcast.

Working alongside @timothykbuxton has taught me a great deal about podcasting—but also reinforced principles that sit at the core of performance coaching: preparation, clarity, consistency, and asking better questions.

Meaningful conversations, like meaningful performance, are built over time. We both have our own Podcasts as well but this one means a hell of a lot to me. Here we share our insights, unfiltered and raw. Find us anywhere you listen to your favourite Podcasts. Or follow the link in my bio.

Thank you, Tim!! Loving the journey 🙏🏼🤙😎

This room was full of people whose impact stretches far beyond one night.

Our Team Christmas and End of Year Party was a chance to celebrate the staff and volunteers whose everyday actions ripple through our communities — supporting hundreds of newly settled families and many more Waymakers and community members.

Thank you for showing up with courage, compassion, and generosity.

Merry Christmas from everyone at You Belong 🎄
