POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
You’ve never shared in a run like this.

200km on foot across Iraqi Kurdistan: from the Iranian border, over the Zagros Mountains, to the ancient Citadel of Erbil. Rugged country, deep history, and a community you’ll run every step with.

“I didn’t come back to Iraq as a humanitarian. I came back as a runner to retrace the same paths my refugee friends fled along. I chose to run for those who were forced to run.” — Tim Buxton, Director, Ultra Odyssey

In 2025, a small team ran Iraq 100 in honour of the people who fled ISIS. Every one of them, from runners to local guides to the camera crew, came home changed.

Over the coming months we’ll share that story. Then we’re inviting you into the next one: Iraq 200, October 2027. Twelve places, a few are already spoken for.

Applications open 1 November, or comment below and we’ll be in touch.

Iraq100 put our legionnaires to the ultimate test in the heat, dust and mountains of Northern Iraq.

Tim, Mario and the @youbelongorg team carried a story far bigger than the run itself and we were grateful to be part of their journey.

You can read their full story on our community blog.

Today I’m quietly sharing the teaser for The Return.

This documentary follows a 100-mile journey through Northern Iraq. Not as a race, but as an act of remembrance, solidarity, and return. Along the same road thousands of families fled ISIS violence, this journey asks a deeper question: what does courage look like after trauma, and what does belonging require of us now?

We are releasing this teaser at a time when the world feels heavy again. The recent violence at Bondi has left many hearts broken. For our team at You Belong, and for many of our Syrian, Iraqi, and Middle Eastern colleagues and refugee friends, this grief is painfully familiar. Our hearts ache for the Jewish community in Australia reeling from this tragedy. Senseless violence. Innocent lives lost. Communities holding their breath, wondering what backlash may follow.

And yet, again, we also witnessed something else. Ordinary people responding with extraordinary courage. Compassion interrupting hate. Humanity refusing to be erased.

That is the heart of this film.

The Return is not a political statement or a sports story. It is a human one. It sits alongside our work at You Belong to champion refugee Waymakers and to build welcoming, safe, and inclusive communities, especially when fear and division feel louder than hope.

We are planning an international film festival release in 2026 and would love to be part of conversations that explore endurance, displacement, reconciliation, and the quiet heroism of choosing empathy in a fractured world.

If this story resonates, we invite you to watch, reflect, and share. Belonging is not passive. It is something we choose, again and again.

I’ve been pretty quiet over the last couple months, but to make up for it, here’s a little Insta Spam for you with a few snapshots from my phone over the past month.

It’s fun to look back on all the highs, lows and fun moments that make up our rich and full life.

Obviously there’s the work, school and routine that make up most of our crazy family existence, and to be honest.. that’s where the magic really happens. But for those wondering what’s happening over here.. this is a little sneak peek. by @timothykbuxton

He landed in Iraq with a 9-week-old baby, a 1-year-old, a 2-year-old, and everything he owned.
On that same day, ISIS took Mosul.
Two million people fled.
And Tim Buxton decided to stay. 🎙️

Most of us scroll past the headlines.
Tim moved his family into them.
Not because he was fearless.
But because he was called.
And what happened over the next three and a half years — the midnight escapes, the fathers whose daughters were taken by ISIS, the micro-villages built from nothing, the weight of carrying two million stories — will completely shift the way you see the world.

This episode wrecked us. In the best possible way.
We talk about:
→ Growing up in the jungles of Papua and why it wired him differently
→ The Yazidi people — a genocide the world barely noticed
→ What compassion fatigue actually does to your body
→ Why he came home broken, drove Uber at 2am, and found his purpose again
→ The organisation he built to help refugees belong in Australia
→ Why a stranger is just a friend you haven’t met yet

“There’s something inside every one of us that we just have to do.
Most of us don’t have the guts to step out and have a go.”
This is that episode that makes you put your phone down and ask yourself what you’re really doing with your one life.

Your kid is playing their heart out. You’re standing on the sideline analysing their technique.

One of these people is performing. The other one is getting in the way.

In the latest episode of The One Percenters Performance Podcast, Tim and Mario break down what children do naturally — the thing we train out of them with good intentions and bad sideline behaviour.

Kids play for the love of it. They fail without a crisis of identity. They shake hands after a battle and walk away clean.

There are performance lessons in your kids Saturday morning football match that no boardroom ever taught you.

New episode out now. Watch & listen wherever you get your podcasts.

Under one sun. ☀️🖤💛❤️

This week, August spent time painting Aboriginal artwork as part of Reconciliation Week — learning, listening, creating, and celebrating the stories, culture, and wisdom of First Nations peoples.

Reconciliation grows in simple moments too… through curiosity, creativity, conversation, and teaching the next generation to honour the world’s oldest continuing culture with respect and humility.

Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.

18 years today.

And somehow… it’s raining again, just like it did on our wedding day. A beautiful reminder of the perfect day we tied the knot with that magical rainbow that appeared during the wedding photos.

I wouldn’t have changed a thing about that unforgettable day and this incredible life we’ve shared together so far.

And through all of the highs and lows, we’re constantly being upstaged by God’s incredible blessing and faithfulness over our life together. 🌈

18 years.
9 homes.
4 kids.
3 countries.
1 dog.
A million memories.
Infinite love.

From that rainy wedding car… to a rainbow over the reception… to the beautiful family we now get to call ours. What a journey it’s been @sarahkbuxton

And honestly, it still feels like we’re just getting started. Yewwwww to us ❤️🥂🎉 by @timothykbuxton

Time for a dad brag post 🥹..

Over the weekend I got all dressed up for a special night out with my eldest daughter, Elliana (who looked absolutely stunning), celebrating a cricket season that’s meant a lot.

At the Gold Coast Dolphins Cricket Club awards night, Elliana was recognised with the Coach’s Award for her Third Grade Open Premier Women’s team, a reflection not just of performance but of the way she’s shown up all year.

It’s been a season full of challenge and response from the team, and they came through it to finish as champions, winning the grand final. In that match, Elliana was also named MVP, a fitting acknowledgement of her impact when it mattered most.

Throughout the season she took on the challenging role opening batting, and did so with real intent, she stepped up as one of the first-change bowlers, and probably what stands out most is how much her fielding has grown, taking some outstanding catches and lifting her presence in the field.

Footy has already taken over the calendar, but it was good to pause and recognise what was a strong cricket season and a lot of hard work behind it.

More than anything, it’s the way she carries herself, the discipline, the consistency, and the way teammates and coaches respond to her, that makes us all so proud of her and nights like this meaningful.

Proud is an understatement, and quietly excited for whatever comes next. by @timothykbuxton

It’s not every day I put on a suit, but it was worth it.

Today I had the privilege of meeting with @hermannvorstermp and @fionasimpsonmp to talk about the role refugees can play in shaping a stronger, more vibrant Queensland.

At @youbelongorg, we see every day how connection and upskilling create real pathways for Waymakers to contribute and thrive.

Big thanks to Hermann Vorster for the invitation and for sharing his passion for Parliament House and the future of multicultural Queensland.

Encouraged by what’s possible when we keep showing up, working together, and building real opportunities for belonging. taken in Queensland Parliament by @timothykbuxton

This morning I sat down with my journal and wrote something I’ve been needing to say for a while. No AI.

Just pen, paper, and an honest conversation with myself about what the relentless rise of AI is doing to my confidence, my creativity, and my sense of identity.
I call it identity rot.

And I don’t think I’m alone in feeling it… so I decided to record my raw unedited words with you in a video.

If this resonates with you please share your own thoughts and pass along.

The full conversation is now live as an episode on the Juste Podcast.

When suffering is everywhere, the question isn’t who to blame — it’s who we choose to be.

The Return — Teaser (Short Cut)

Across the world right now, fear is being amplified. Pain is being politicised. Hate is being weaponised — by extremists, by politicians and power brokers, by those who benefit when we turn on one another.

This story moves in the opposite direction.

The Return follows a 100-mile journey through Northern Iraq, retracing roads once taken by families fleeing violence — not to reopen wounds, but to remember our shared humanity, and the courage of Waymakers who rebuild despite what they’ve endured.

This is not a film about sides.
It’s about people.
And the choice, again and again, to come together rather than be pulled apart.

Watch with an open heart.
If it stirs something, join the conversation about how we choose humanity over division.
