After 2.5 years of working in film, I can officially say I’m a director!

In July we shot a trailer for Blackout, a thriller script I wrote in 2025. I’m incredibly proud of how it’s coming together, but I’m more proud of how much fun we all had on set. Grateful for everyone who contributed their time, energy, and talent to this vision.

“Tensions rise among the ambitious staff of an up-and-coming recording studio when a multi-platinum producer introduces a new drug into their workplace. Powdered and jet black, it promises freedom from all mental, physical, and moral inhibitions to achieving their wildest career dreams—at the cost of their memories while under the influence.”

This was probably the 5th read through of this scene during a long, virtual callback, after various notes and trying it different ways. The director said, “Let’s do it one more time”
So naturally, I decided to full send it this time around. But when my entire audition set up fell over, a million thoughts went through my head.

NONE of them were of me freaking out. Why was that? I think there are a number of reasons:

At this point of the audition process, the director @dgordonfilm had asked me if I was comfortable with doing long, one-take scenes because this movie was going to have a lot of those. So when disaster struck, I thought, well if this was a one-take scene then I would need to keep going. So that’s what I did.

Now why did I have the confidence for that?

Well, every year I read a book, written by Michael Caine, called: Blowing The Bloody Doors Off. In the book there’s a particular chapter about “Using The Difficulty”. Caine talks about not shying away when things don’t go as planned while you’re doing a scene; use it. You trip up on the corner of a rug while entering the room? Use it. You’re filming in an incredibly uncomfortable location? Use it. Obstacles always help a performance.
That always stuck with me. And I now search for those uncomfortable moments while acting because I think my performances are better for it.

And hey… using the difficulty here, booked me this movie. So something tells me this Michael Caine guy knows what he’s talking about 😅
