Happy International Womens Day! 🌸💕 A huge thank you to the men and women who support me and believe in me, and champion my work… my amazing partner Jon (he’s basically my business development manager who claims to invoice me one day 😅) my wonderful clients, friends, family, suppliers, installers and other business owners. I’ve had three wallpaper murals installed in the last week, and I’ve never felt more inspired or supported as a creative woman! I look forward to the day I can hire women in my business and coach other creative women in pursuing their passions!

YAY!! Last week I celebrated one year of full time work in my business Tiny Giraffe 🎉 This is an amazing milestone for me! I’ve worked with brilliant, talented people who had a vision for something special… who trusted me to deliver a bespoke art solution for their own homes and businesses. I started Tiny Giraffe in 2016, with a small selection of hand drawn fine art prints featuring my favourite cities as modern maps. I used to draw late into the night after a full day at work, and sell my art prints on weekends at Sydney’s Paddington and Balmain Markets. I met so many incredible people and heard so many special stories they share when they see a city map and reminisce. I remember the day in late 2016 when I landed my first wallpaper mural in a Sydney real estate office! It was 7m long and I watched the installation from beginning to end in awe. It was one of the happiest days of my life and I remember thinking “Imagine if every day were like today” 💭 And now it is! I continued to sell my artworks at the Finders Keepers markets, and when I moved back to Brissie in 2018, I was in store at West Elm purchasing new homewares and we got chatting - next, they offered me a pop up shop for a weekend 🥰 Last year I landed a spot in British Vogue to feature my gold foil London fine art print - what a dream!✨ Then in April 2021 I quit my corporate job. I decided to take the terrifying but soul nourishing leap. Over the last year I’ve worked in cafes, libraries, hotels, airports, and mostly in my own home studio. I have really big dreams for this little business (so big I only share them out loud with a small few) and I’m so grateful to be doing what I LOVE every single day and making dreams come true for clients and their creative projects. Thank you to everyone who has shared my business with a friend or colleague - please continue to do so, it really helps others to find me. And thank you for every like or comment too. These are some great quotes to live by... "Imagine life is a dream." "Kindness is key." "The first duty of love is to listen." What quotes would you choose to see in your home every day? When Nick came to me, he had a strong vision. He wanted to transform the hallway at home by featuring some of his favourite quotes and sayings - a daily, visual reminder of words that capture how special the universe is, how precious time is and where his family values lie. Something special that he, his wife and daughters would see every day. What a beautiful and meaningful idea!! We arranged for an art consultation and I visited Nick and his wife to chat in more detail, discuss options and get a feel for the space. We confirmed the exact quotes (Nick had collected many good ones!) and I suggested a maximum of 15 - I didn't want the wall to feel cluttered or overwhelming. I planned to leave plenty of white space for an elegant look for a space that already had elegant artworks and beautiful downlighting. During concept design, I created all of the hand lettering for each of the quotes on my iPad Pro - some were written over and over until I was happy, and others flowed perfectly the first time - it is always the way! This time, just over two weeks ago… in heaven, on a solo getaway @norwoodroses 💕 It was a planned trip to visit my grandparents, but when I discovered this Airbnb I decided to make it a self love treat. I ate chocolate in a warm salted bath, slept under a blanket in cooler weather, read books about flowers, drank cups of tea on the deck while watching the rain, ate slabs of butter and cheese on a gifted sourdough loaf from @thebakersduck, drank chai, took a slow walk around the neighbourhood at sunset, and left with an armful of homegrown flowers. All the best things! I also wrote the self love guide that so many of you downloaded and enjoyed! 💕 Self love is an important topic to me, and in the spirit of Tiny Giraffe and all things travel and adventure, self love is about ‘coming home’. And doesn’t it feel good to come home 🌸 Over the next few days I’ll be sharing a new art collection that started as a passion project over 2 years ago, and has finally come to fruition! Murals make an impact 😍 This custom wallpaper mural was designed for a lovely lady living in Morningside, who had an old wallpaper she wanted to replace (swipe to see before picture). The brief? “Something around nature and calming”. I asked my client a few questions to get the concept ideas flowing and we settled on her favourite flowers - peonies, wattles and flowering Eucalyptus gums. The design doesn’t take over the whole wall like a patterned wallpaper does. The ‘white space’ or offset design allows the line art flowers to be the focus and also softens the wall. Use of colour plays such a large part in how we feel in our spaces. The use of turquoise colour made it memorable but also has a calming effect. The colour changes at different times of day - when the light hits it, it softens even more. This mural is installed along a hallway, providing a delightful surprise as you climb the stairs to the second story. I can’t believe it’s been 9 months since I quit my job and went full time into Tiny Giraffe, my art and design studio. I didn’t expect that one of my first clients would come from this special holiday we took a year and a half ago. In August 2020 my partner Jonathan and I travelled to Maleny, Queensland to stay at Cabin 2, The Ridge. This adorable cabin is perched high on a ridge, overlooking pristine forest and complete with full kitchen, fireplace and bathtub. We didn’t want to leave!! On one beautiful new moon night, I left the comfort of our cosy log fire to capture a series of night sky photographs. These photos led to a special art commission, where I created two star constellations over the top of my photography, and delivered this artwork to the wonderful Airbnb host, who I am so grateful to now call a friend. Travelling is one of the most important things to me. I love experiences more than things, making precious memories and exploring new places that will inspire me forever. I hope you’ll enjoy this story and how our 2 day adventure led to a commissioned art piece I’ll hold dear in my heart forever. A lot can happen in a year, and this one, despite so many challenges has been the best one yet for me. My word for this year was ‘manifest’ (2020 was ‘bloom’) and it rang true in so many ways. I can’t wait to see how Tiny Giraffe grows next year. I can’t wait to see how I grow! I haven’t thought of a word for next year yet. Yay! 🎉❤️ Today is exactly 6 months since I left my job as a landscape architect to go ALL IN on my art. I’m so proud of what I’ve created so far 💕 Tiny Giraffe has been running since January 2016. It started as a passion project and creative outlet - I first drew the city of San Francisco after I travelled there in 2010 and left my heart there. I just couldn’t find the perfect artwork for my own wall. One city led to others and my first collection - I left my heart - was born. I started selling at the Paddington Markets in Sydney, then was accepted into Etsy markets in Chippendale and Finders Keepers in Barangaroo. In 2017, a lovely man named George and his beautiful wife found my work on Instagram and reached out requesting a mural. Murals are my favourite! In 2018 I moved back to Brisbane separated, with a broken heart and Tiny Giraffe has helped me mend it in many ways. A trip to West Elm for new furniture landed me a conversation with the sweet staff there and a pop up shop opportunity was offered. Many of you came to visit! In 2019 I asked my boss to go part time so I could try build this little brand. I introduced gold foil prints and they were starting to sell like hot cakes. In 2020 I started work with Sydney interior designers @oakandorange to create my first ever Eucalyptus wallpaper which launched earlier this year 🌿 And in April 2021 I decided to give Tiny Giraffe my full attention. It was the most terrifying and exciting thing I’ve ever done. I’m amazed that I’ve had a steady stream of clients ever since! And they are the kindest, most passionate people who share my values and promote my work 🥰 It’s a dream come true (and so much fun) to be creating art prints, wallpapers and murals. As well as logos and surface pattern designs for other businesses and their products. I love that I get to help people every single day and be as creative as I dreamt of being.
