Curves: 15 Perspectives on Car design
By Fabio Filippini
Veloce 2026

Originally released in Italian in 2021, this is the English version of car designer Fabio Filippini’s reflections on automotive design after four decades in the business, including time at Renault, Volkswagen, and Pininfarina.

Curves is more a series of vignettes on the elements of car design than an autobiography, and it is lush with sketches by the author.

Each of the 15 chapters covers an aspect of car design, ranging from the importance of hand drawing, to the role of curves and reflections, and the influence that context and the surrounding environment can have on the perception of a car.

What stands out about this book is how the author has shared his expertise in a very accessible way. Since reading it, I’ve seen cars differently by considering what they would look like in different environments - a showroom, a sunny climate, or in front of very modern or very traditional architecture.

Whether you read a section a day, or devour it all at once, you will surely keep coming back to it.

The book is available for preorder @velocebooks and will be released on 10.13.2026.

It was a busy weekend! Starting out with the much-anticipated @macchinissima III, we’ve got the car that I was most looking forward to seeing there, @tinyscorpion44 ‘s fantastic and incredibly preserved 🇮🇹’76 Lancia Scorpion, also known as the Beta Montecarlo outside North America. This is one of my favorite and most-wanted cars. It was designed by Pininfarina as part of a competition to replace the Fiat 124 Coupe. (The winner there was Bertone with the X1/9. Pininfarina’s Montecarlo project was known as X1/8 and later X1/20, which is still an unofficial nickname.) Pininfarina also assembled the Montecarlos for Lancia, which was a first for the company that previously did only bodies. Thanks again to @tinyscorpion44 and @robby_fd3s for bringing this beautiful car all the way down from Idaho! #lancia #lanciascorpion #lanciabetamontecarlo #lanciamontecarlo #betamontecarlo #macchinissima #macchinissima3 #italiancars #carsoflosangeles #socalcars #carsofidaho

Well that's it all over, the Marea is off to its new life with @tinyscorpion44 in about a week over in Idaho. The Current Mr Magill and I are flying to London tonight and meeting @morselsandmotors in the morning
A little sad but also happy that this one is going to such a good home. We really bonded with the big Fiat in New England, it never let us down even though last year it did 200 miles and this year it's done 3600 miles from just October to December and in some really difficult conditions. Peace and Love to its life in the new world x
