Growing up, my mum always found ways to express her love for us in words,  through birthday cards, notes..... I remember one February 14th when she showed up at my secondary school with a bouquet of colourful paper craft flowers she'd made, each one with something written on it just for me. Oh loved! My grandmother, of blessed memory, wrote me letters too, then kept writing them to me and my husband after I got married. I still have a box full of cards, notes, scraps of paper, years of being loved on, in writing.

I was at a bookstore the other day and passed by a card with a peacock on it. Something about it made me think of my daughter immediately, how beautiful she is, in so many ways. I picked it up and wrote her a note full of words. Captured this moment briefly. Watching her read it, quietly, was its own kind of joy.

Later that evening I asked where she'd put the card. She told me it was tucked away with all her other cards, the ones from when she was seven. She's been keeping them.

I was wowed.

Happy Friday.

What a joy to steward the gifts God has given us.
