In case you missed it...stop what you’re doing and watch @kianasrowland and @tljdance_’s piece Unapologetic! Here or on our YouTube channel! You won’t regret it. “We have more power than we think we do, especially with community.” -Ki’ana Rowland Pic by @earlmcgehee This project was supported, in part, by the City of Austin Office of Arts, Culture, Music and Entertainment, the Artist Access Program, and East Side Performing Arts. #multiformdance #westafricandance #modern

Choreographed by @kianasrowland and @tljdance_, Unapologetic brought energy, power and emotions to the Say That Again stage. Fusing Hip Hop, West African and Modern dance, Unapologetic explores Nina Simone’s legacy. Mixing recorded segments of her early interviews with a thumping, grounded beat, this piece is inspired by how the musician and activist spoke and moved with boldness, as a way to create resistance. Enjoy, and give these choreographers and dancers some love! From the studio to the stage! 🤩 One of the things we love about dance is that it can only be created collaboratively. Choreographed by @kianasrowland and @tljdance_, Unapologetic was schemed up in the studio with the dancers, and brought to life in the theater with costumes, lighting, sound, and of course, that amazing audience energy. From Accra to the world 🌍 An electrifying workshop with Torens Johnson @tljdance_ of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. @alvinailey We had an unforgettable immersion into Horton technique last week. Beyond the movement, we connected deeply to the history and legacy of Alvin Ailey—a powerful reminder that our journeys matter, and our stories must be told. We keep going. 🔥 #seniordancecompany #viviesdanceandtheatreacademy #legacy #alvinailey

Austin, we’re dazzled by the experience of sharing Say That Again 2026 with you! This was our 3rd year of this Black History Month tradition, and there were so many landmarks: - First six-show run - Largest STA cast - Most inclusive and biggest Early Era audience yet Thank you to everyone who purchased a ticket! Whether you scraped together every dollar you had, or gave extra to support the show, we’re beyond grateful for your presence and generosity. We hope you walked away with a little more perspective, joy, and connection to yourself and others. Our choreographers, collaborators, and dancers were extraordinary! Thank you for bringing the moves, words, and music that speak to here and now. You showed up with talent, presence, joy, and purpose to each rehearsal and show. Say That Again is all about unity, and it wasn’t just a performance - the concept was fully alive backstage. Thank you for leaning into new friendships, creative connections, dance forms, and processes. Our crew was a dream team. Thank you to @doghouseproductionsatx, @trentaloni, @thickheavyclouds, @amywithonea, and @Jairuscarr for lighting the stage in innovative ways, smoothing out the audial experience, setting props, and making sure dancers were in place. We couldn’t tell these stories so beautifully without your creativity and care. Thank you to talented photographers/videographers @EarlMcGehee, @pinkcords, and @shharii for giving us forever copies of live moments. More thank-you’s coming next week!
