Meet Recap: Jessica Fernandez - Powerlifting America Just The Bar Classic

Squat: 150kg (+7.5)
Bench: 70kg (+2.5)
Deadlift: 160kg (+5)
Total: 380kg (+15)
🥈Place Classic Open 63kg

Jessica and I first started working together in January of this year. The goal was ultimately to get stronger for her next meet. Needless to say, she did amazingly well! PR on every lift, including her total.

We managed to squeeze in two blocks on prep for Just The Bar. She was incredibly easy to work with and feedback was consistent each week as we worked together to create her program. Really couldn’t have asked for more with how locked in she was from the beginning. The meet was a bit more faced paced than either of us were expecting since it was a 3 session meet crammed into one full day with a hard end time, but she handled some of the adjusted timing between disciplines well. Her third deadlift moving as easy as it did is reflective of that. She absolutely could have loaded a bit more on all 3 lifts, but we also wanted to keep the 9/9 goal on track as well while keeping in mind meet pacing.

Outside of the unusually fast pacing for the first session, this was an excellent meet!

I really have to thank @cranonnn and @moe.kilos for putting @justthebarclassic together. It was a great meet to be part of as a coach and athlete.

Definitely reminded me just how much I enjoy being in a fun and welcoming warmup room before stepping on the platform right when I needed a reminder. Also thank you @tmogully for stepping in to handle for third attempt squats. I was a bit overwhelmed there for a second, so that’s super appreciated.

Another good weekend in what is probably my favorite Texas city for powerlifting✨

Recently stepped into CrossFit at @grindhousefitness , It’s humbling. New movements, new pace, new kind of tired.

Different coaching styles. Same mission. FITNESS FOR ALL.

Some of us are loud motivators. Some are calm technicians. Some will fix your form mid-rep.

But every coach here is focused on one thing: helping you train safely, effectively, and consistently.

We always practice what we preach 💪🏽😎

Most of our day is spent in front of you, explaining the workout, checking form, counting your reps, but behind the scenes we are also in the gym getting our workout in!

The Grind House Way ✌🏽
