POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Oh boy, we’ve reached the end of days for #letssang ‘s long standing 13 year residency at beloved @grampswynwood 💐

It’s been an unbelievable time and we’re indebted to @adamg for letting us throw a silly party with projections, artists, drag queens, endless themes and shenangans. This could have only happened at @grampswynwood the one spot in Miami fostering creativity, community and merriment like no other.

We’re grateful to everyone who shared a little bit of joy even when times were tough like covid, zika, hurricanes, the loss of giants like David Bowie and Prince. It was a place to bond and make friends.

Let’s rejoice that it all happened and drink our last Cucumber in Paradise, the only cocktail I drank for 10 years until I finally tried a Rosemary’s Baby a few years ago 😂 when something is so good you just stick to it you know?

Thanks also to everyone who has helped us make posters, host, spread the word and invite friends, visuals, borrow equipment, etc we have had a blast.

TM Sisters Editorial Portrait: A Quick Guide

For this editorial portrait session, I photographed the TM Sisters as part of a larger assignment. Having worked with them once before, they were relaxed and confident, making the shoot smooth and enjoyable.

I set up my E-M5 camera on a tripod and used one off-camera flash with a small umbrella on a stand. The entire session took about 15 minutes. The TM Sisters came prepared with their own artistic style, so I let them express themselves naturally. This approach produced authentic, vibrant portraits.

Key takeaway: Keep your setup simple and focus on capturing the subject’s energy. Simplicity often delivers the most striking results.

—

Step-by-Step Guide for a Quick Editorial Portrait Session

1. Prepare Your Gear
- Camera on a tripod (AM5 or similar)
- Single off-camera flash with a small umbrella
2. Scout Your Lighting
- Position your flash to create soft, flattering light
- Check reflections in the eyes for added depth
3. Engage Your Subjects
- Encourage them to wear outfits they feel comfortable in
- Allow their personal style to guide the mood
4. Choose Simple Poses
- Focus on 1–2 strong compositions
- Capture natural gestures and expressions
5. Keep It Short and Fun
- A quick 15-minute session can be very effective
6. Prioritize Energy Over Complexity
- Focus on connection and authenticity
- Avoid over-directing; observe and capture genuine moments

We started a new journey as a nomadic archive this fall and the graciousness and supportive ecosystem of the Miami arts community heartened us in many ways. As memory workers, we are tasked with understanding and presenting the histories of Miami artists in ways that are expansive, accessible, and innovative. We partnered with the Vasari Project at the MDPLS to highlight the archives of the women-led arts organizations that were building community from the 1970s onwards. This is important work and we have more work to do to highlight the histories of individuals and organizations that have shaped the landscape of Miami. Many of these histories are not easily accessible and we are grateful to all of you who open your homes, offices, studios, and archives to us as we continue our research. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
During art week, we celebrated two WAAM openings with the Vasari Project and artists whose work is actively shaping how we think about legacy and memory in Miami. ⁣We kicked off art week with friends, family and our community. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
We were also unsurprisingly drawn to several projects that are creating spaces for belonging, inclusion, and remembrance.⁣
⁣We were moved by the evocative archives of the TM Sisters at the Locust Projects pavilion and were transported by Loni Johnson’s breathtaking altars to liminal realms at Making Miami. And Sydney Maubert’s installation at the Green Space for DISplaced reminded us of the layers of histories that are the geographic and cultural bedrock of Miami. ⁣Photos: Frank Casale
