Christopher Robin Nordström, aka @tokyobuild, rebuilds Tokyo’s most ordinary houses, gutter by gutter. His ongoing project recreates the city’s anonymous buildings at 1:20 scale, focusing on the details that usually go unnoticed – from patched façades and faded paintwork to gutters, air-conditioning units and electrical conduits.

Started in 2018 after his first trip to Tokyo, the project grew out of Nordström’s fascination with the city’s everyday architecture and the subtle changes that take place over time.

In April, @ikea asked 31,448 people across the world how they live with their stuff 👀

The result? The IKEA Store & Organise Report 2026 digs into people’s home habits—from storing and cleaning to mess, and the things we just can’t get rid of.

With homes shrinking (In the US, homes are the smallest they’ve been in 15 years), living is getting more and more compact. And yet, people are shifting away from stark minimalism in favor of homes that are full meaningful objects.

Swipe through to explore the top 10 storage & organisational trends from 2026 ➡️

Which one is the most you? Tell us in the comments 👇

Pictured: IKEA’s tiniest flatpack ever, the 1:20 scale KALLAX, created in collaboration with Swedish miniature artist Christopher Robin Nordström of @tokyobuild

Report & photography courtesy of IKEA.

26% hide memorabilia from past relationships. Plot twist: men are 6 percentage-points more likely to do it than women.

82% keep things purely for sentimental reasons, even when they’re never used or shoved out of sight.

15% globally see clutter as a form of creativity, with 31% in China, but just 4% in Japan. Even 12% of those self-described as organised and clutter free.

Two weeks?! That’s how much more time India spends a year looking for stuff than the UK: 80 minutes a day vs 15!

68% of households have a drawer or box that houses everything without a home. And 54% of Boomer men keep cables for devices they no longer own!

Over 30 minutes a day is spent by 11% of Gen Z searching for a charger, that’s one full week a year, gone.

The kitchen counter is the No.1 spot for clutter (24%)

1 in 10 of us have cancelled having guests over because of clutter, rising to 28% in China. And 34% shuffle clutter from room to room before guests arrive, peaking at 49% in the UK.

1 in 10 of us use the oven as storage, rising to just over 1 in 5 if you live in South Korea.

38% say someone in the household leaves things out in a muted move for someone else to deal with.

Wait… IKEA made a TINY KALLAX?! 😭🤏

I got to build this adorable miniature version of IKEA’s iconic KALLAX today and I’m OBSESSED. 😂

It came with the tiniest IKEA-style instructions, teeny accessories, little plants, books… everything is ridiculously cute. 🥹

Created in collaboration with miniature artist @tokyobuild , and honestly… building mini IKEA might be more fun than building the real thing. 😂

Now the important question… what should I add to my tiny KALLAX? 👀

Tutti pazzi per le miniature come noi? 🥹

We see your PR gift @ikea and raise you a unique DIY tiny home kitchenette build 🫶

This cute mini Kallax shelf unit (and the box) is adorable and we love @tokyobuild work but we would jump the chance to prove the concept in our tiny home.

Can’t wait to hear from you @ikeanewzealand 👌
