Well anyway i made it to dinner
오랫만에 came to #lowereastsidenyc
Came to this #chineserestaurant called @tolo_nyc
The photos are not in the order of - 나온순서아님
Just random
Anyway this first dish is called little #ricenoodle with xo
Was actually wayyy better than i thought
Super chewy not oily at all
I liked it a lot

Another Starter - #stringbeans with #mincedpork

Dang this one was REALLY good as well
Highly recommended
Would go super well with #rice

Main - sweet and sour crispy #fish

It was nothing like I imagined
I could taste the #pineapple in the sauce
The fish was supper juicy
And the fried layer didn’t feel greasy at all
Also highly recommended

Snack - #cucumber and #woodear with #wasabi

I liked the cucumber and wood ear combo
But i’m not a fan of wasabi
It was very refreshing but i think i prefer the traditional way
Like how the actual way this dish is made in a #chinese way

Dessert - forgot the name but was really good

There were two options for #dessert
I don’t remember the name of this one
But i liked it a lot
I could taste the #earlgrey
And i really like the #brownsugar caramelizing on the top
And that #oreoicecream on the side was🤌
One thing i didn’t like was the #grapefruit
It was too bitter
Prolly it was there for garnish🤷‍♀️
Anyway overall i liked the restaurant a lot
I would def come back

The Precap is back for round 2! Rules stay the same: drinks by 6, dinner by 7, me in bed by 10. This one brought us to Chinatown, with some amazing Chinese flavors within a 10-minute walk.

🍸 Opera House cocktails so inventive we started planning our next order mid-sip (the White Snake Legend won the night) @operahouse.nyc

🥢 Tolo chef Ron Yan’s tiny open-kitchen counter spot where the spicy fried chicken sandwich alone is worth the trip @tolo_nyc

And the best part: we found Tolo through Chase Sapphire Exclusive Tables, and the dining credit that came with the reservation covered most of our meal. Credit card maxxing for the win!

A Friday summer evening in the low 70s made for the perfect Lower Manhattan wine walk.

We started at Freddies, continued to Lei, stopped by Colbo next door, and finished at Tolo — four distinct wine programs within just a few blocks. The range was what stood out most: Jura whites, chilled reds, low-intervention bottles, and wines from regions and appellations that rarely receive the same attention as the usual names.

The food added another layer to the journey. Lei’s thoughtful, modern Chinese cooking — bright crudo, crisp fried fish, and delicate vegetable-driven plates — paired especially well with the fresher, more mineral wines. Tolo brought a bolder, more spice-driven menu, with dishes designed for wines that could handle texture, heat, and umami.

It is always impressive to find this much diversity in such a small corner of the city — different styles, regions, cuisines, and points of view, all within walking distance. A reminder that some of the best wine exploration happens one neighborhood at a time.
