Happy happy 18th birthday to Bear! 🎂❤️

She is one of the most adventurous, joyous, stoked, creative, resilient people I know and I can’t wait to watch her continue to grow up.

What a true honor to be her MOM. ❤️

World-renowned architects @schumacher.patrik (#ZHA), @viviana_muscettola (#ZHA), @tom.wiscombe (#TWA), and @shajay_Bhooshan (#ZHACODE) lead an online intensive exploration of architecture's next frontier: the convergence of cybernetic and physical space.

Set within @metrotopia.metaverse, a virtual city dedicated to design experimentation and architectural innovation, the program operates simultaneously as an advanced design studio, research lab, discourse platform and design experiment. Participants investigate architecture as a discipline operating across cybernetic and material realms.

Design becomes a systemic intelligence where geometry, human reasoning and machine processes combine to form adaptive spatial ecologies. Fully online with global participation. Join us!

Perspecta 38: Architecture After All (2006).

Editors: Marcus Carter @marcusrcarter, Christopher Marcinkowski @porturbanism, Forth Bagley @forthbagley, and Ceren Bingol @cerenbingolstudio. Designers: Danielle Aubert @auberdada and Willy Wong @w2ny.

“Many leading designers and thinkers have turned away from the ideological hegemony of critical
theory towards a rediscovered focus on praxis as a means of conceptual positioning. This shift lessens the focus on meaning in architecture, and instead prioritizes processes and techniques enabled by late-capitalism and the appropriation of emerging technologies... The essays should be read as cross-sections through the larger topic at hand, and as a way of probing the various avenues of architectural exploration resulting from a landscape seemingly devoid of a single dominant ideology.”

Featuring Roger Connah on architecture after ideology; Emmanuel Petit on differential and integrative thinking; Christopher Hight and Chris Perry on bionetworks; Tom Wiscombe on letting go of hierarchy in favor of the swarm; Winka Dubbeldam on the productive crisis; Noriyuki Tajima on shifting situations of urban space in Tokyo; Dawn Finley and Mark Wamble on design research; Michael Speaks on intelligence after theory; Ashley Schafer on theory after; Lebbeus Woods on architecture after form; Sam Jacob on half-timbering and the pop vernacular; Stanley Tigerman on ideological hegemonies; and a roundtable hosted by the Architectural League with Michael Speaks, Mark Goulthorpe, David Serero, Gregg Pasquarelli, Hernan Diaz Alonso, and Winka Dubbeldam.
