Great Academy Screening of Hollow Trees at the SAVOY Cinema✨

As part of the IFTA In Consideration screening series, Academy Members enjoyed some pre-screening drinks and networking ahead of the screening of Cathal Fitzpatrick’s feature film.

Following the screening, Writer/Director Cathal Fitzpatrick, alongside cast and crew, took part in a Q&A, sharing insights into the film’s journey from a short film to a feature, the experience of bringing the project to life as a fully self-funded production, and the collaborative process behind the film. The discussion also explored the actors’ performances and their approaches to bringing their characters to life.

Members enjoyed the opportunity to hear more about the creative journey behind Hollow Trees and how this post-apocalyptic world was created on screen! 💚

Years after a war that wiped out 50% of the world’s population, a hardened survivor, Kent (Tom Kerrisk), and a young boy, Danny (Louis Kirwan), struggle to survive in the harsh environment.

On a scavenging mission, Kent finds himself face to face with a new threat: a strange creature capable of imitating humans. After a new face joins them, Amelia (Rosey Hayes), they learn about possible refugee camps further north.

With contaminated surroundings, dwindling food supplies, and an unknown entity hunting them, they are forced from their once secluded home and must journey north in the hope of reaching the camps before the creature catches them.

Starring: Tom Kerrisk, Louis Kirwan, Rosey Hayes, Colin Malone

I think from the short film, audiences came for the horror but stayed for the characters and to see their journey through.”

Last night was a dream… 💭

To have made this film nearly 4 years ago and see it finally coming to life is a feeling I can’t really explain.

4 years ago little Sophie was figuring out how to survive in such a scary world after hers fell apart… in the grand scheme of film it’s a small win but to me it’s huge, this film really helped me through that dark period of my life and made me believe I was capable of bigger things. To work with really talented individuals whom I have deep respect for and to be a part of something bigger than myself was soul fulfilling.

I genuinely can’t thank @rob_james_capel @tomkerrisk @stevenjjess @cathal_fitzpatrick and @johnfarrellyy for everything, for believing in that young one nobody heard of and gave her a chance, for being so generous with their time and efforts, and their kindness, true gents 🫶🏻.

Thank you @undergroundcinema for the opportunity, and the lovely evening. Thank you to my beautiful family and friend for showing up and supporting, it means the world to me 🌍🫶🏻.
