ON REFLECTION | A Celebration of Colour, Meaning & Creativity

Every gemstone has a story. Every colour evokes an emotion. And every piece of jewellery can become something deeply personal.

As we approach On Reflection, my jewellery design workshop presented as part of Melbourne Fashion Week, I’m looking forward to sharing an extraordinary collection of materials I’ve carefully selected for this experience.

From the soft romance of rose quartz and rhodochrosite to the rich blues of lapis lazuli and amazonite, the delicate purples of lepidolite and amethyst, and the dramatic beauty of onyx, obsidian and hematite.

We’ll explore a beautiful selection of gemstones and other materials, including:

Rose quartz, rhodochrosite and freshwater pearls — evoking love, tenderness and connection.

Lapis lazuli, amazonite and sea sediment jasper — colours reminiscent of tranquillity, wisdom and reflection.

Ghost amethyst, dream lace amethyst and lepidolite — delicate shades associated with introspection, serenity and transformation.

Onyx, obsidian, hematite and howlite — striking contrasts traditionally associated with protection, grounding and balance.

Coral, red jasper, striped agate, Dalmatian jasper and aventurine — vibrant expressions of vitality, individuality and renewal.

Through colour, texture and symbolism, you’ll be invited to create a piece of jewellery that reflects something meaningful to you — whether that’s a memory, a relationship, a personal journey or simply something beautiful that brings you joy.

No previous jewellery-making experience is necessary. I’ll guide you through the creative process, sharing techniques from my couture jewellery practice, Silent Dove.

Enjoy a glass of sparkling, explore beautiful materials and take home a piece of jewellery that is uniquely yours.

With Melbourne Fashion Week almost upon us, this is one of the final opportunities to secure your place.

I’d love you to join me.

ON REFLECTION | The Language of Colour and Gemstones

Throughout history, jewellery has carried meaning beyond adornment.

Colours, gemstones and precious materials have been chosen to express love, remembrance, protection, faith and identity.

Soft pinks and rose quartz have long been associated with love, tenderness and compassion. Amethyst, with its beautiful violet hues, has been connected with wisdom, spirituality and royalty. Freshwater pearls evoke purity, beauty and transformation, while black onyx has traditionally symbolised strength, protection and resilience.

Even the simplest materials can become deeply meaningful when chosen with intention.

For On Reflection, my jewellery design workshop presented as part of Melbourne Fashion Week, I invite you to explore this beautiful relationship between materials, symbolism and personal storytelling.

Working with a thoughtfully curated selection of natural gemstones, freshwater pearls and other decorative elements, you’ll create a piece of jewellery that reflects something meaningful to you.

Perhaps a memory, a person, a belief, a feeling — or simply a colour that speaks to you.

No previous jewellery-making experience is required.

Join me during Melbourne Fashion Week for an intimate jewellery design workshop exploring the ways jewellery can hold memory, meaning and personal story.

Over two hours, I’ll guide you through the foundational techniques I use in my own practice as you create a piece that is entirely your own, choosing from a generous collection of beautiful materials including freshwater pearls, rose quartz, amethyst, onyx, lapis, jasper, lepidolite and hand-finished resin elements.

No previous jewellery-making experience is needed — just come ready to experiment, create and enjoy the process. Your finished piece is yours to take home, with a little sparkling to enjoy as we work.

I’m so excited to share that On Reflection, my jewellery design workshop for Melbourne Fashion Week, is now live.

Jewellery has always been more than adornment.

Across cultures and centuries, we have used it to mark love, remembrance, protection, faith and identity — creating objects that carry meaning as well as beauty.

On Reflection is an invitation to explore that tradition and create something that reflects a story of your own.

During this intimate two-hour workshop, I’ll share a curated selection of Silent Dove works and offer an insight into the design process and ideas behind the collections, before guiding you in creating a piece of your own.

Working with freshwater pearls, natural stones including rose quartz and amethyst, resin-encased textiles and other carefully selected materials, you’ll learn foundational jewellery-making techniques while exploring the symbolism of colour, material and form.

There is no prescribed finished design. What you create will be uniquely yours — a handcrafted piece to wear and keep.

Sip sparkling as you create, surrounded by beautiful materials, jewellery and conversation.

Friday 23 October, 4-6pm

“Douglas Cox is one of the leaders of the Australian fashion industry. He is chairman of the National Association of Garment Industries. Often dubbed ‘the stormy petrel of Flinders Lane,’ Mr. Cox is outspoken and hard-hitting in his fight for better conditions for the flourishing Australian fashion industry. His caustic criticisms have caused many a change in policy of Government.

Today, he is firmly established as one of Australia’s best-known fashion manufacturers”- 1959
