My daughter scored her first soccer goal last weekend - and ran and jumped into my arms as I waited at midfield.

I couldn’t ’over-cheer’ because I’m the coach of the team and I cheer for all the girls equally..

But inside I was a super proud dad!

Talk about an amazing memory!!

And later that day, as I reflected on it, I kept thinking:

“Would I have missed this moment if I was still coaching?”

My head coach was amazing, he probably wouldn’t have let me miss it.

But still, there’s no doubt we would have had practice and/or recruits up, tailgate for the football game — and I would have been pulled in different directions.

That stress, when you want to be GREAT at your job and GREAT as a husband and father, is real.

I am so grateful to be in the career I’m in now: building a practice that’s intertwined into my life and values, still building genuine relationships and still positively impacting lives….

And never risk missing a moment like this.

If you’re a competitor and truly want to be the best you can be, 𝙖𝙘𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙗𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮 is something you seek.

You want to be held to a standard. You want to be reminded of your goals and told the truth if your actions don’t align.

If you’ve spent time in high-level athletics, this is a given. It’s what separates the elite from everyone else. Because it’s ultimately a mindset - you’re either going to desire the accountability and the coaching, or you’re going to be a victim and feel sorry for yourself.

Now I might not be as intense with my clients as it would get on the court, but it’s the same idea.

If you truly want to be great when it comes to your finances, you need accountability.

You need check-ins and deadlines and reminders.

No different than having a personal trainer at the gym - you invest in that relationship because you know it’ll force you to show up at the gym at 5am when someone is there waiting there to coach you.

And like everything… it’s not for everyone.

When a “Foxhole Guy” needs something, you make it happen.

Coach Baruth was my boss for 7.5 years. Gave me a chance when I was simply a volunteer to be his right hand man. And I learned more about life, standards, work ethic, and attention to detail than any masterclass/ college course could ever imagine.

And his résumé and impact on winning at every stop he’s had is elite.

It was great to be back in a gym, assisting the McKendree Bearcats with their inaugural boys basketball team camp. They have very high character guys and a great culture, coming off their highest win total in school history.

A foxhole is a small pit used in wars, where a soldier and 3 others could fit and shoot from… you better trust those other 3 guys with your life… “Coach” will always be one of my 3 to go to war with.

“We make good money… but I feel like we should be farther ahead”

Pretty common thought.. basically, “where is our money going?”

Two incomes. Good careers. Bills getting paid so no CC debt.

Yet it still feels like there should be more left over at the end of the month.

Most of the time, the issue isn’t income.

It’s awareness.

You gotta have a gauge on where your money is flowing. That’s why one of the first things I like to do with families is audit cash flow with a boring, not-sexy Budget.

Not to judge spending. Not to tell people they can’t enjoy life… Just to make sure their dollars have a purpose.

When we are ‘aware’ of the flow, then we can make adjustments if necessary. Because when your spending aligns with what’s most important to you, everything starts to feel more intentional.

Less wondering.

More confidence and clarity.

I just had my best week in my business - want to know my #1 secret?

It’s pretty simple. And I didn’t learn it from a business coach, a senior advisor, or Alex Harmozi.

I learned it way back in probably 1st grade at St Anne’s Elementary School, and it was reinforced by my parents my entire life:

“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”

The Golden Rule. Matthew 7:12. Treat people how you would want to be treated.

And I know! That sounds cliche, maybe a bit cheesy.. but I’m telling you - that is my mindset when meeting with people.

And what does that actually look like in practice?

•Asking questions to really understand
•Providing humor and positivity
•Actively listening
•Showing compassion and empathy
•Providing leadership and accountability
•Simplifying complex issues
•Not hard-selling; giving people time to think about questions and talk with their spouse

These are a few principles that I live by. And I think people can feel when you genuinely care about them and their family.

Think back 6… 12… 18 months - life probably looks a little different, doesn’t it?

Maybe it’s a new job or promotion.

Maybe you got engaged (this photo is right after my proposal!).

Or maybe it’s a new addition to the family.

Something changed. And with change, comes strings of other thoughts:

•“Are we doing this the right way?”
•“Is there anything we should be thinking about here?”
•”Do I just ask my parents?” —> never a bad move.

That’s why I believe so much in ongoing advice.

Real relationships, being apart of someone’s journey, helping them in the moment as life evolves… which is more than just once a year.

Because the big moments don’t wait for your annual review.

Have a great Friday! If you haven’t been to Banff, Yoho, and Jasper National Parks (aka Canadian Rockies) I HIGHLY recommend.

Part of my job is taking families off the rollercoaster of life and helping them think about the things they should be thinking about.

I get it - work, kids, trying to keep up with the house… it’s a lot.

Most families I talk to feel like they’re just trying to keep up.

Money’s coming in, going out… you’re doing your best… but getting “organized” financially just keeps getting pushed off.

And you really don’t need a “quick fix” - you want a partner who can provide education, guidance, and accountability towards the goals you’ve thought of, but haven’t committed to.

That’s where I come in.

To start, it’s just about having a quick conversation… getting a little clarity… and taking one step in the right direction.

If it’s been in the back of your mind to figure out a game plan, happy to talk.

Sometimes the best way to accelerate is to actually slow down (s/o to my colleague Chris Leone)… here are 4 reflection points from my Q1 of 2026:

1.) Time blocking my calendar is a MUST. Being intentional with what my top priorities are instead of bouncing between emails, notifications, random thoughts… things that feel important in the moment but usually aren’t urgent. Having a SYSTEM - Saves You Stress Time Energy & Money (s/o colleague Ed Walter)

2.) The Ups & Downs are REAL when growing a business. From cloud 9 one day to questioning yourself the next. I’ve learned to recognize my thought pattern and quickly reset, leaning on my FAITH & my WHY - knowing I have a moral responsibility to help educate and guide others.

3.) Felt proud of myself for hitting my #1 Financial Planning goal for the quarter! My conviction and passion in what I’m doing has never been greater.

4.) My biggest area of improvement is knowing that growth isn’t about doing more. It’s actually the opposite. It’s narrowing my focus on what matters, cutting out the rest, and adding fuel to what’s truly working.

That’s the mindset going into Q2.

But first… going to unplug a bit and enjoy a weekend getaway. Yes I was nearly in the back row after having to fly standby but appreciate Delta Air Lines for working around uncontrollable Air Traffic Control issues.

Then we get back to it and turn it up a notch.
