My daughter scored her first soccer goal last weekend - and ran and jumped into my arms as I waited at midfield.

I couldn’t ’over-cheer’ because I’m the coach of the team and I cheer for all the girls equally..

But inside I was a super proud dad!

Talk about an amazing memory!!

And later that day, as I reflected on it, I kept thinking:

“Would I have missed this moment if I was still coaching?”

My head coach was amazing, he probably wouldn’t have let me miss it.

But still, there’s no doubt we would have had practice and/or recruits up, tailgate for the football game — and I would have been pulled in different directions.

That stress, when you want to be GREAT at your job and GREAT as a husband and father, is real.

I am so grateful to be in the career I’m in now: building a practice that’s intertwined into my life and values, still building genuine relationships and still positively impacting lives….

And never risk missing a moment like this. by @tommy.twardecki

If you’re a competitor and truly want to be the best you can be, 𝙖𝙘𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙗𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮 is something you seek.

You want to be held to a standard. You want to be reminded of your goals and told the truth if your actions don’t align.

If you’ve spent time in high-level athletics, this is a given. It’s what separates the elite from everyone else. Because it’s ultimately a mindset - you’re either going to desire the accountability and the coaching, or you’re going to be a victim and feel sorry for yourself.

Now I might not be as intense with my clients as it would get on the court, but it’s the same idea.

If you truly want to be great when it comes to your finances, you need accountability.

You need check-ins and deadlines and reminders.

No different than having a personal trainer at the gym - you invest in that relationship because you know it’ll force you to show up at the gym at 5am when someone is there waiting there to coach you.

And like everything… it’s not for everyone. by @tommy.twardecki

When a “Foxhole Guy” needs something, you make it happen.

Coach Baruth was my boss for 7.5 years. Gave me a chance when I was simply a volunteer to be his right hand man. And I learned more about life, standards, work ethic, and attention to detail than any masterclass/ college course could ever imagine.

And his résumé and impact on winning at every stop he’s had is elite.

It was great to be back in a gym, assisting the McKendree Bearcats with their inaugural boys basketball team camp. They have very high character guys and a great culture, coming off their highest win total in school history.

A foxhole is a small pit used in wars, where a soldier and 3 others could fit and shoot from… you better trust those other 3 guys with your life… “Coach” will always be one of my 3 to go to war with. by @tommy.twardecki

“We make good money… but I feel like we should be farther ahead”

Pretty common thought.. basically, “where is our money going?”

Two incomes. Good careers. Bills getting paid so no CC debt.

Yet it still feels like there should be more left over at the end of the month.

Most of the time, the issue isn’t income.

It’s awareness.

You gotta have a gauge on where your money is flowing. That’s why one of the first things I like to do with families is audit cash flow with a boring, not-sexy Budget.

Not to judge spending. Not to tell people they can’t enjoy life… Just to make sure their dollars have a purpose.

When we are ‘aware’ of the flow, then we can make adjustments if necessary. Because when your spending aligns with what’s most important to you, everything starts to feel more intentional.

Less wondering.
