How to win–or at least set yourself up for racing success–at Road America?

“The secret to doing well at Road America or really anywhere: properly sharing the track,” writes champion racer Tom O'Gorman. “This will help with more clear laps, less drama between cars and more high-quality racing action.”

Autocross runs–even at the highest level like the Tire Rack SCCA Solo Nationals–are rarely over about a minute long. And when you’re in Lincoln, Nebraska, facing the prospect of 6 total minutes of seat time, that leaves plenty of time for extracurricular activities.

Well, we have Thursday night covered.

On September 10, we’ll be teaming up with Tom O’Gorman and D.J. Alessandrini from the Lizard Brains podcast (and from, you know, being Tom and D.J.) for a little celebration.

We’re taking over the Mazda Motorsports Town Center tent in the lower paddock and turning it into your parents’ basement circa 1996. That means Nintendo, cheap pizza and minimal décor, but lots of friends.

We’ll have a king-of-the-hill-style Mario Kart tournament with fabulous prizes going to the winners, free pizza for as long as it lasts and, mostly, a place to hang out and chill with other cool people and do fun stuff.

Things should kick off around 6:30 p.m. if the competition portion of the day runs mostly on schedule.

Tom O’Gorman’s raced and won just about everything he’s competed in. IMSA. Gridlife. SCCA. Check, check and check. Now he’s got a new challenge: Spec MX-5.

Tom’s no stranger to the class. As part of the SCCA Super Tour broadcast team, he’s provided plenty of color commentary on Spec MX-5 racing.

Now, Tom’s going to get a new perspective to help his broadcasting: from the driver’s seat.

Mazda Motorsports approached him with the opportunity, and Tom, being the racer he is, quickly accepted it. He’ll compete in Spec MX-5 this weekend, August 29-30 at Barber Motorsports Park.

When Tom’s not behind the wheel, though, you will continue to find him behind the mic of the broadcast, too, for the “majority of the races,” he says.

I swear I’m totally definitely not super sad that I’m missing @gridlifeofficial at the beautiful @limerockpark next week 🥲🥲🥲🥲

It’s the first time I’ve ever thought about missing an FD round on my own accord. I haven’t missed a round in almost 5 years.

Figured id take yall on a trip down memory lane and show yall some photos from Year 1 of @circuitlegends in 2022.

Really wishing I could be two places at once 😭😭😭

What a weekend. Reassembling and disassembling both cars, headlight drama, rain, broken parts, black flagged.

Still came out with back to back wins in ZR3 with #177, an incredible achievement for the team.

#178 well that's been the problem child, but best believe she'll be a no doubt winner when the bugs decide to finally leave.

Got to be the fuelman this time around as well.

Also shout out to @tomoracing for putting in an insane monster stint at the end of Sunday hanging onto a car in heavy wet weather with DRY tires on it, world class.

We'll be back in Miami for the next one 🤙

Wow, another banger weekend with @zenith_racingseries and a great result for the team @cambernperformance This weekend we went to battle at Watkins Glen international for round 5 of the Zenith Racing Series. We ended the weekend with a P3 in ZR2 in the 178 and a double win in ZR3 with the 177. Absolute mega drive delivered from @tomoracing in the rain. Huge thanks to ZRS for putting on an amazing series and everyone on the team for pulling off smooth and perfectly executed stops all weekend. (Yes, they bolted scooter lights to the hood of my car)

What a weekend. We managed a double win even with all the issues we faced including rain yesterday. 2 more races left with homestead 12 and Daytona 12.
