Tokyo - Day 1
I’m skipping our travel day which was our first true day because I was jet lagged and so tired. But our travel was smooth, and we had dinner with good friends whose travel itinerary had one day of overlap with us ❤️
- Tom and I at the Akasaka Imperial Gardens
- Tom’s been obsessed with trees and tree trimming/care lately, so he was in heaven.
- Lots of beautiful shrines everywhere. This was a little one we found.
- Tom and the boy in the “children crossing” signs have the same hat!
- We are 2 - 0 so far with trying to get something from one of the drink machines here using our card. This is a fun photo, but we were so thirsty and annoyed.
- Tom, hatless and showing his respect at Nogi Park
- We were super tired and hungry and tried to find a cafe I saw that looked cool. Turns out it was in a massive luxury mall 😬
- This is not the cafe (it wasn’t what we thought) but we got SUCH a perfect lunch here!
- See! Massive mall!
- TINY PUPPY! It was mad at my phone.
- After eating we had enough energy to hop on a train and go to a random neighborhood. Turned out to be Nakameguro, which is also very posh, but smaller with lots of independent boutiques
- A giant dog in a perfume shop. It was breathing, and its eyes and ears would twitch!
- A cool mural, but I wanted to say we passed by SO many independent school children while walking. Kids being completely independent on the subway at the age of 6 or so!
- Our first Izakaya experience, and Tom accidentally ordered a very big beer.
- We ended the night by our place, at a cocktail bar called Barny. The cocktails were masterful ❤️

I haven’t posted on here in foreeeeevvver. It’s been so long that this photo isn’t even recent (it’s from March of this year). But that was around the time Tom and I just stated getting too damn busy. We feel like we’ve been going 100mph since then 😫 BUT the reason I’m dipping my toe in posting here again is that tomorrow, we’re leaving for Japan!! It us to belatedly celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary ❤️ We haven’t been on a vacation in over a year, and I really can’t wait for a break 😅

In the past when we’ve done big trip, I use this account as a daily photo dump, so I’ll be doing that again. I hope you enjoy following along with us 😊

Recent acquisitions via the mail, Seattle Zine Fest and direct to my hand at the last Dune night.

Grixly is always very generous! Join his Patreon. It's amazing to receive original art from the Long Boxes series. Looking forward to reading the American Nature interview with him.

Chris Pitzer graciously sent me a copy of the John Jacobs and Ken Landgraf artist booklet he put together with unpublished work that is so bizarre and out there it's beautiful!

At the Seattle Zine Fest I picked up the collected Doctor Dracula from Kalen Knowles! One of my favorite world building storytellers making comics in Seattle. I also stopped by Crossroads Folk Horror table and got a supplemental zine about Murder Ballads.

Lastly at Dune a recent contributor Tom Delongchamp gifted me a copy of his impressive book of painted portraits. I mistook some of his work for digital painting and they're not. Some are done with finger prints. Mental!

Thanks for the stuff y'all!

Happy birthday to Sir Gaspar Eddie The Rysdyke aka @gasparthegallerydog aka Gasparella aka Gasparugus on your 6th year around the sun. My little mop muppet, the shaggiest dog in the world, the pandemic pup that changed my life forever. Born to bark and lick the faces of those he loves. Thanks for being the best lil sidekick and boys best friend. Stay cool baby G. ✌️💕🐕

Huge thanks to everyone who came out to support Joel Romeo for his birthday benefit at the Sunset on Sunday!

It was incredibly heartwarming to see folks come together to celebrate his positive spirit and discover his creative output. He wore a big grin on his face the entire evening as he made the rounds and rocked out to some of his favorite bands.

Everybody has a Joel Story from the days he made Ballard home. The lasting connections and impressions he made in the community will forever be tied to the neighborhood’s transition from sleepy and blue collar to trendy destination. Through it all Joel has remained curious and creative and an inspiration to all he meets.

Thank you to Max Wallace @madmaxwallace for his enthusiasm and contribution to the book; the Sunset @thesunsettavern for hosting; bands Green River Thrillers @greenriverthrillers and Creatura @creatura.band; DJ sets Kris Pissedofferson, Mad Max Wallace, Specs Wizard, and Village Person; poster design by @yawnlopez; support and snacks from Chris, Kael, and Gwynne.

“Nobody Loves Joel Romeo” is a new book that collects 100s of Joel’s unique drawings and is available now from Tome Press @tomepress. Find it at local bookstores soon or online from Asterism @asterism_books. Proceeds go towards supporting Joel.

Everybody loves Joel Romeo 👖
