💙THE VINYL COMMUNITY💙

There are so many brilliant people sharing their love of music, records and albums on Instagram that we thought we’d start doing something about it.

Every Wednesday we share five accounts we’ve discovered and enjoyed and give them a little shout out.

No rankings.

No favourites.

Just five music-loving accounts we think are worth a look. 💙💛

This week’s five 👇

Rush – Moving Pictures (1981)

First of all, I want to dedicate this post to a friend here on IG to whom I am deeply grateful, someone who is also a @rush fan, @tomtraceymusic 🤜🏻🔥🤛🏻

Putting this relic on the turntable is always an incredible experience. Released in 1981, this album is the sweet spot where progressive rock complexity meets the direct energy of the 80s.

Neil Peart’s precision, Geddy Lee’s basslines and synths, and Alex Lifeson’s iconic riffs... It’s flawless from start to finish. From “Tom Sawyer” and the instrumental masterclass of “YYZ” and the distinctive anthem “Limelight” on Side A, to the incredible atmosphere of “The Camera Eye” and “Witch Hunt” on Side B.

Three musicians sounding like an entire orchestra. One of those albums that never ages and makes the whole vinyl ritual completely worth it.

A huge thank you to @tomtraceymusic for his kind words about our latest Friday Vinyl Club podcast episode featuring @cyncyvynyl 💙💛

Together we explore why this remarkable album still resonates nearly fifty years later.

We chat about:

• Why Death on Two Legs remains one of rock’s most savage opening tracks.

• The incredible studio craftsmanship behind Bohemian Rhapsody.

• How You’re My Best Friend provided the perfect emotional balance.

• Why The Prophet’s Song deserves far more recognition.

We also discuss how vinyl collecting became an important part of Andrew’s wellbeing and how the global vinyl community has connected music lovers across the world.

If you’re mainly here for the Queen discussion, that begins at approximately 30 minutes into the episode.

If you decide to give it a listen, we’d genuinely love to hear your own memories of discovering A Night at the Opera.

Thanks again Tom Tracey 💙💛

I wrote Backstage Pass.

It’s not nostalgia.
It’s not a snazzy little rock memoir.
It’s the unfiltered truth about fame, burnout, ambition, near-misses, bad decisions, wild nights, and the cost of surviving a business that eats people alive.

If you lived through the ’90s and 2000s music scene, this will feel familiar.
If you didn’t, this is what never made the press.

I’m JD.
This is my story.
And this is what really happened backstage.

NEW WAVE NEXUS 1984

1983 brings the New Wave Nexus brings us the band The Fixx and the album Reach the Beach...

The Fixx was a quintessential new wave band. A British band that polished the synth pop and art rock with an eye for the American audience.

One Thing Leads To Another and Saved By Zero were to hits off this album. This is another new wave band that was helped by MTV...

NEW WAVE NEXUS 1982

1982 gave Duran Duran's breakthrough album Rio. Hungry Like A Wolf and Rio pushed the band into the spotlight. This was the bands second studio album after having minor success with their debut.

The band took their synthesizer led pop tunes and mashed in some punk, dance, and disco. The band can give their worldwide breakthrough thanks to the help of MTV.

The rhythm section, for me, drives these songs beyond the synthesizers.

Two for Tuesday plus one! 🤘🏻

Vain - Cold Like Snow

This may be Vain’s most glam/sleaze sounding record since “No Respect” (1989). The album for me takes off on the second half with the track “Holding On For Love” from the band’s indie EP release Vain – Holdin’ On For Love (1988) (demo track redone/remastered).
Ashley Mitchell (bass) is the only band member that’s been around since the debut, but this feels like a classic sounding Vain record!
