🍊⛓️ HEAVY METALS ⛓️🍊

More Death Metal from the Sunshine State ☀️ with @officialmorbidangel | Tampa, FL.

The Source: Death Metal
The Essence: Brutality
The Architecture: Old-School Death Metal with Technical Precision

A vital part of the Florida scene, helping push death metal’s technical side.

Deep growls by Steve Tucker, Trey’s heavy, often intricate riffs and warped, disorienting solos.. Sandoval’s relentless drumming.. So much power, so badass.

My featured album is their 7th & legendary “Heretic” (2003) which just celebrated its 23rd anniversary.. wanted to post this one on that day, but I’m always a couple weeks behind on everything, like all of us 😆

They’ve shared bills with Suffocation and Revocation.. more death metal bang for your buck.

Which brings to mind my new-music budget..

Tapes & CDs are typically in the $15 range, vinyl records $32 and up. These economics have begun to shape my purchasing patterns and highlight my brilliance with numbers 👀

🧠 I can get 2 sometimes 3 new cassettes for the price of 1 new record while sacrificing little in sound to my ears.. and giving my Instagram pics some variety.

I was much better in cooking and automotive classes than math or economics, but something tells me if I diversify my audio portfolio, I’ll net more albums over time 🤯

It’s funny.. we can get purchase anxiety over music, then spend $125 at the Mexican restaurant for shrimp tacos and guac for the fam 🍤🥑 at the drop of a sombrero.

Mental versus physical nourishment..

We need both, but when push comes to shove, don’t mess with my camarones and chiles de árbol 💪🏼

🎛️🎧AFTERNOON ANALOG

Sleek, sexy hot pink vinyl reissue..

W.A.S.P. | Self-Titled (1984)

Thunderous, theatrical, heavy + melodic.. mid-80s metal at its absolute best.

Killer artwork and pics.. 10/10 album with little-to-no argument in the public square, I have to imagine.

Blackie Lawless, Chris Holmes, Randy Piper, Tony Richards FTFW here🤘🏼

“The music’s between us..”

☀️ FIRST SPIN OTD as the sun begins to rise..

DURAN DURAN | Astronaut (2004)

“Reach up for the sunrise, put your hands into the big sky.”

Duran Duran conversations always get me craving those Duran sounds, visuals and overall mood.

Another amazing Duran post and thread by @sandy.wharton24 moved me to jam this gem of a reunion album first thing today.. all 5 original members back together.

1993 brought a major commercial lift with the “Wedding Album,” followed by the covers album ‘Thank You’.. then a bit of a creative dip IMO with Medazzaland and Pop Trash. Then we get this.. an absolute resurgence of Duran prowess.

“You can touch the sunrise, feel the new day enter your life.”

💿 RECORDS IN THE NIGHT 🌙

FRANK SINATRA | Greatest Hits

Estate sale for a buck.. years ago. It’s good to have some Sinatra in the collection.

My 3rd Frankie post today, and finally the artist’s name is actually Frank.. I swear to God this was entirely unplanned.

That inner sleeve though.. can we at least get some pics of cigars in ashtrays, old guys in suits, women in cocktail dresses and pearls.. glasses of whiskey, cards.. a random shot of Sammy Davis Jr. hanging out just because?

🌭 THREE FRANKS.. sounds like a cool name for a Chicago hot dog stand, but let’s 2026 it up.. modern Chicago industrial architecture. Exposed brick, black steel, big windows. Our flagship.. THE THREE FRANKS GOURMET GLIZZILLA 🌭🔥

What’s inside: Grass-fed, grass-finished all-beef dogs, no casing.. we can partner with Teton for sourcing, distribution and a little co-branded marketing.

We’ll handle all produce internally.. grow our own potato’s, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers for pickles and sport peppers on-site, do garden tours and nerd out over terra preta we import terra preta straight from the Brazilian Amazon.. source all organic sea salt, mustard, sweet relish, celery salt and poppy seed buns.

One strict rule: ketchup is for the fries only!

I have no idea wtf this is I just kept going.

🎛️ AFTERNOON ANALOG

FRANKIE AND THE WITCH FINGERS | Live at KEXP (2025)
RSD “Reactor Breach” splatter vinyl

Our 2nd Frankie band of the day without a guy named Frankie. This time it’s an actual cat.. not a cat from the Rat Pack 🐱

Before taking his garage-psych weirdness out to LA, Dylan Sizemore started in Bloomington, Indiana, with guitar, vocals and a kick drum.. a one-man setup with my kinda payroll.

Fuzzy, frantic and bizarre. There’s a lot going on beneath the King Gizzard/Mission of Burma racket.

This set was recorded at Seattle’s KEXP and released for Record Store Day 2025. The whole package gives me Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles meets Garbage Pale Kids vibes.. oddly gross sewer pipes, radioactive ooze, mutant rats, old-school arcade fonts.. just as much a visual casserole as this mornings Hollywood contingent but far less suggestive lol

Somebody tell Splinter his kids started a psych-punk band 🐀🍕🤘🏼

☀️ FIRST SPIN OTD

FRANKIE GOES TO HOLLYWOOD | Welcome to the Pleasuredome (1984)

Starting off this Monday AM with my shirt off, obviously.. a Zoom-approved ascot and possibly an oversized horned headdress.

There’s so much going on with this album musically and visually.. every spin leaves me a little confused and loving it more.

There is no Frankie leading or even in the band. They’re referring to Sinatra when he started doing movies.

The gatefold jacket and inner sleeves of this unnecessarily double LP have psychedelic, cartoonish, earthy, theatrical and Picasso-like elements all over in absolutely no order.

The music.. oh yeah, guess there’s that too. It’s bombastic 80s synth pop with dance grooves and dramatic vocals. Totally awesome and under-celebrated as time goes on IMO.

Productive or provocative?

One moment you’re just trying to start a productive week in your home office with a timeless Gen X classic.. next thing you’re tallying innuendos and contemplating the appropriateness of what turns out to be a more than mildly provocative record.

Should I be stressed out overthinking that?

Frankie say Relax.. don’t do it.

🔊 CHICAGO AMPLIFIED

TROUBLE | Manic Frustration (1992)

Trouble on the boombox, Bears at noon.

Chicago kinda Sunday 🐻⬇️

Starting Bagent over Case Keenum after he crushed the Birds last week doesn’t make too much sense to me 🤷‍♂️ but my qualifications start and end at Tom Tracey Music, not Soldier Field 😂

Trouble’s roots run through Chicago + Aurora. Rick Wartell started the band in HS in 1978. Bruce Franklin + Eric Wagner came from an Aurora band called Wisecrack.

Working the local clubs.. all our favorites! The Thirsty Whale.. Haymakers, The Rusty Nail. A recording of their 1983 show at Aurora’s Deaf Club made the rounds and helped get them signed to Metal Blade.

By Manic Frustration, they were on Def American, mixing those heavy riffs with strong melodies and a more psychedelic sound.

Chicago riffs move considerably faster than its traffic.

☀️ FIRST SPIN OTD

@morphine_band | Cure for Pain (1993)
Formed in Cambridge, MA

Damn… the smooth, soothing grooves of Mark Sandman’s two-string Premier slide bass + Dana Colley’s deep, smoky baritone sax.. sounding like nobody else.

This is a great morning record 🤙 ☕️

I had to listen after seeing @theduchessbeemused post cuz that Nick Cave was sounding sooo badass.. reminded me a little bit of Sandman.. like he snuck into the sessions 😆 so he def snuck into my AM queue!
