Tomu DJ & Harriet Brown - AR (Official Lyric Video)

Another one from our EP (short album?), set to come out early November! This is a very special one to me. I often find myself wondering — what am I perpetually yearning for? Will this feeling ever go away? While I think the most detailed, little answers to those questions are ever-shifting, I’ve come to realize the large answer is that I’m yearning for an alternate reality. What’s the “alternate”? I don’t fully know — it could be so many different things. A reality in which my people (or any people) weren’t colonized; or, more personally, in which my youth wasn’t taken captive by the structure of a colonial religion; in which I felt more directly connected to my ancestors; in which safety was not a commodity, but a natural state of being; in which money did not exist; in which living beings were valued more than private property or dogma; a reality in which my parents, and their parents, and their parents’ parents could have done whatever they desired, following dreams instead of merely survival; a reality in which they are free, I am free, we are all free. At times, usually with an altered mind, I imagine being free, I imagine living that alternate reality, and I feel light, and I want to stay, and I never want to go back. But, inevitably, the memory of this reality hits like bricks, and I feel heavy, remembering ball and chain, remembering where and when I am, wailing against my transport back to this world in vain. I am yearning for an alternate reality, and, no, I don’t believe that feeling will ever go away in this lifetime.

With all that said — what a refreshing taste of freedom it is to work with Tomu! An ear like no other. Where alone I often find myself overworking and overproducing, she helped me see when things were simply done. There is such a beautiful rawness here that I’ve never been able to capture in my solo work — I’m blessed to have experienced this with and learned from Tomu. So much ease and flow working together, so much unspoken understanding and connection. I’m glad we’ve found each other, and I’m excited to share with you all what we’ve created together <333 #music

FRIDAY BIOME 💙 a very special collection of live sets, new projects, and deep selectors. We’re excited to have @_dustcollective on sound & lights, and a visual install from @juliasrum this year to envelop you all 🌀🌀

@millimeng is a dancer & dj based in sf who approaches the decks with an intuitive understanding of movement. tracing through distorted textures, spacious soundscapes, & deep, dubbed out grooves, she centers rhythm as the primary narrative tool, binding the dancefloor in a shared pulse.

@lil_laozi is a multi-disciplinary artist who navigates the space between form/function/identity as both a DJ and designer/founder of his clothing label, Unsettle. Sonically, lil laozi flows across genre-bending sounds such as ghettotech, jungle, and bass-driven percussive rhythms - always providing raw energy to any environment he’s in.

@tomudj is an American artist whose original music has been featured in Vogue, Pitchfork, Stereogum, Dazed, NPR and more. She will be premiering three new projects at Vitarave.

@elias.ffss is a German-born, Oakland-based electronic music artist, producer, and DJ. Known for blending etherial electronics with the alto saxophone, he crafts improvised, long form ambient and abstract soundscapes.

@parkingstructure combines EMB and electroclash elements into her live set, utilizing textural records and live vocals.

Kumarius (@akarshkmr) performs a hybrid set highlighting the sitar, and is a long time collaborator with one of our favorite series @_seeeat_.

@adjnamedhappyfeet is a San Francisco Bay Area based DJ. No matter the genre, he takes pride in searching high and low for obscure tracks that will keep a dance floor moving. He’ll be leading a Draw & Drink event at Biome right before sunset :)
