Such an honor to have Aqueduct recognized alongside so many wonderful films produced in New York State!

Huge thanks to @empirestatefilmfest for recognizing Aqueduct with awards for Outstanding Short and Outstanding Director. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a wonderful festival.

I wholeheartedly encourage fellow filmmakers to submit their films in the years to come. It’s clear how much this festival cares about the films it showcases and the filmmakers behind them. Their team knows each film intimately and goes out of its way to make every filmmaker feel valued and celebrated.

I want to thank the incredible crew who made this short possible, everyone who believed in the project from the beginning, and all the friends and family whose support helped bring it to life. This award belongs to all of you.

From New York, we welcome filmmaker Louise Bartolotta to the official 2026 selection with her short drama, Nicky and Nick. Something happened at a party between college basketball players Nicky and Nick, but it didn't mean anything. It was no big deal. No, really—they’re good.

The film is a love letter to the Hudson Valley and an exploration of the many layers and faces of the queer community, but overall, a story about personal growth through a close relationship, where two people inspire each other to be better.

About the director:

Louise is a filmmaker from the Hudson Valley and has directed 4 short films there. In 2022, she was awarded the HUDSY community content grant to direct her last short, 'Javelina'.
