@newspaperclub strikes again! 🎳 it’s always a joy to work on the BDF @designfestbrum print programme and this year working collaboratively with @rosie_clarke_ made it even more fun! 3000 copies available next week at the festival, first come first served but we’ll save some for reach day, in each District.

PICNIC is 3! 🎉 How did that happen? :)

A big thanks to everyone who has made PICNIC what it is over the last few years, we are super proud of our Illustration community here in Brum and love seeing all your faces at our events. A shout out to @davebainuk for his continual support and in particular, help with getting the meet-up started and the @theaoi for our guidance. A big thank you to our generous and regular venue @pan_pan_______ as well. Here’s to more years and more meet-ups!

Our next meet-up is in conjunction with @designfestbrum and will be in June, date and details coming very soon 👀

JAZZ + DRAW 🎺 ✏️
We had such a fun time joining in with the Jazz Jam at @pan_pan_______ on Monday night! Big thanks to Pan Pan for having us along ~ it was a wonderful night of mingling between musicians and illustrators.

We are looking forward to our next meet-up, keep your eyes peeled for another announcement soon! 👀✌️

We are searching for a Dundee designer to undertake a micro-residency across 5-days at @newlanark, a @unesco World Heritage Site, as part of Scotland’s Creative Cities Living Heritage Residencies Programme. You have 1 week left to apply! 🚨

🗓️ Applications due 1pm, Monday 13 April
💷 Fully funded accommodation alongside a £1,796 fee + £150 travel budget
📍 Applicants must live, work or have a studio located within a DD postcode
ℹ️ The residency will take place between May-June 2026

Great to chat to two of my favourite street artists @annatomix and @mrmurals over the last couple of weeks as they helped transform The Underpass which leads to The Mailbox in Birmingham. Anna has added extra vibrancy via a colourful geometric design to the octagonal light installation 'The Portal', which has also been refurbished. I'm unsure if it was deliberate, but the vertical supports that Daniel has added album covers by @blacksabbath @duranduran @ub40official and ELO now remind me of T-shirts (see my second image). Well done to @centralbidbirmingham for initiating this transformation, which includes the Black Sabbath Album Boards that were previously in Victoria Square, an excellent illustrated directional mural by @tomwoolley and works by various artists supplied by @castlefineart 'One Giant Leap for Humankind' by @jacobchandlerart - which is said to be the only permanent public art in the UK honoring a disabled athlete, has run from the starting blocks by Grand Central and is currently here too. Well done to all involved 👏👏👏

Next up in the underpass, in January we asked Birmingham’s own, globally recognised map maker and illustrator the incredibly talented @tomwoolley to develop a new illustrated way-finding solution for the uninspiring grey hoarding, to help guide city centre visitors walking both ways through the underpass. It’s starting to go up today, watch this space…

- my most public art piece ever is officially live and shining a gorgeous light on one of Birmingham’s loveliest areas, Edgbaston
🌙✨

From the moment I saw the artist’s call out I had a feeling, and that feeling has grown and grown and grown and I’m so happy and honoured and proud to be a part of Birmingham Light Festival’s Legacy Project - meaning as the dust settles on an incredible festival weekend, my piece will be around for many moons for you all to enjoy! 💚
