가장 기능적인 물건에 아름다움을, 투 마이 쉽스 🫧 그동안 기능적인 위생용품으로 여겨졌던 데오도란트를 새로운 시각으로 바라보는 브랜드가 있습니다. 런던에서 탄생한 퍼스널 케어 브랜드 ‘투 마이 쉽스(@tomyships)’입니다. 데오도란트에 향수처럼 섬세한 조향과 아름다운 디자인을 가미한 것인데요. 피부에 닿는 감촉부터 은은한 향기, 손에 쥐는 용기의 형태까지. 평범한 일상용품을 취향과 감각의 영역으로 끌어올렸죠. 투 마이 쉽스를 설립한 다니엘 벤스(@danielbense)는 프리미엄 스킨케어 브랜드 이솝(@aesop)에서 커머셜 디렉터로 경험을 쌓은 인물입니다. 그가 데오도란트에 주목한 이유는 오히려 아름다움과 거리가 먼 제품으로 여겨졌기 때문인데요. 수많은 신제품이 쏟아지는 향수 시장과 달리, 데오도란트는 기능과 가격에 집중해 왔죠. 벤스는 여기에 시적인 감성과 기술적 정교함을 더해 새로운 가치를 제안하고자 했습니다. 투 마이 쉽스의 세계관은 호메로스의 서사시 《일리아스》에서 출발합니다. 브랜드명과 첫 컬렉션 ‘오브 더 갓즈’ 모두 작품에서 영감을 얻었습니다. 특히 여신 헤라가 목욕 후 향유를 바르는 대목에 착안해 폴리고눔과 페티그레인, 파촐리가 어우러진 그린 시트러스 향을 완성한 것인데요. 절제된 외관에는 지속가능성을 향한 고민도 담겨 있습니다. 이탈리아 디자인 스튜디오 포르마판타스마(@formafantasma)와 소재 선정부터 제조 공정까지 함께 검토했죠. 쓰임을 다 해 회수된 알루미늄을 100% 재활용한 용기를 채택하고, 병의 비율을 조정해 소재 사용량을 약 10% 줄이기도 했고요. 넉넉한 용량의 리필 제품 역시 한 번 구매한 용기를 오래 사용하도록 고려한 선택입니다. 현재 롤온과 스프레이형 데오도란트부터 핸드 앤 보디 워시, 향수까지 다채로운 제품군을 갖추고 있는데요. 향기를 대하는 태도도 남다릅니다. 강렬한 향으로 체취를 덮기보다 피부에 은은하게 머물며 개인의 고유한 향과 조화를 이루도록 했죠. 품질과 사용감은 물론 원료와 생산 과정까지 세심하게 살피는 태도에서 이들이 추구하는 아름다움의 기준을 엿볼 수 있습니다. 2024년 첫선을 보인 투 마이 쉽스는 런던 리버티 백화점을 비롯해 세계 25개국 120여 개 판매처로 영역을 넓혔습니다. 겨드랑이라는 뜻밖의 영역에서 시작된 향기로운 실험. 언젠가 한국에서도 직접 만나볼 수 있기를 기대해봅니다. 🌬️ DIRECTOR | 하지영 EDITOR | 길보경 DIGITAL EDITOR | 성예인 SOURCE | To My Ships ㅡ 𝚃𝚑𝚎 𝙰𝚝𝚝𝚒𝚝𝚞𝚍𝚎 𝚆𝚎 𝙻𝚒𝚟𝚎 𝙱𝚢. Hamon, n’aime rien tant que mettre en lumière l’âme des endroits dans lesquels elle s’installe. Ici, c’est un appartement italien un peu vieillot, dont les portes vitrées et les prises à l’ancienne racontent le temps et les gens qui y sont passés.
