38 felt strangely familiar ❤️

For probably the first 10–15 years of my fencing career, I spent almost every birthday at Summer Nationals. Different city. Different year. But usually the same thing… long days in a fencing venue, surrounded by the same people, probably stressing about my next result 😂 So spending my 38th birthday at Summer Nationals felt weirdly familiar.

Except this time, I was there as a coach.

Training with our team. Celebrating my birthday with them. Running clinics with Mariel and getting to work with the next generation of fencers and somewhere in the middle of all of it, I was inducted into the USA Fencing Hall of Fame.

@minimalistathlete, best friend and lifelong teammate, and boss inducted me and gave a speech I will never forget. I cry about almost everything and she made sure to mention that 🫶🏼🫠. Anthony was there beside me, my team celebrated my birthday with me, and I was surrounded by so many people who have become part of my life because of this sport.

It’s funny how you can come back to something that feels so familiar and realize just how much has changed. For so many years, I came to Summer Nationals thinking about how far I could go… Now, I find myself thinking a lot more about how many people I can help go farther.

Same sport, same long days…but a very different view.

I can’t believe how quickly these last two and a half weeks passed. Coming home reminded me how many people, places, and experiences have shaped this journey — and how meaningful it is to return and reconnect along the way.

I got to be home for my dad’s birthday.
Taught salsa footwork in Carlsbad.
Returned to a studio in Hemet where I once taught and grew so much — a place that will always hold a special part of my journey.
Taught in Temecula and reconnected with familiar faces and new energy.
Finished my leg tattoo.
Worked with Tahitian dancers in Orange County.
Spent time with my niece.
And danced again with some of my best friends — the kind of moments that make time feel like it never really passed.

So many meaningful moments packed into such a short time.

I’m especially grateful for all the dancers I got to reconnect with over the years. Being back and sharing space again meant more than I can put into words. And to everyone I didn’t get to see this trip — I’m truly sorry. I was running from place to place and wish I had more time with everyone ❤️

I’m feeling incredibly grateful for how everything is unfolding — personally, professionally, and creatively.
