🌀Mountain bike / Trials rider 🚲 go ride ! 🌀 Burnsville North Carolina 📍

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

The year was 2004. Every mountain bike competition had a trials competition. It was part of mountain biking. Every competition had a car. So many car rides back then, the boingy blown suspension and slick metal panels... some good times . I think this is in snowmass, I got help from web cyclery and magura back then. Had a custom gustav X louise situation up front it was awesome times. Fast forward 21 years, we have one main competition a year with a couple small events here and there. No multiple regional series, no national series, nada much. All the bikes riding today would have been illegal back then, there were BB height restrictions and the 6 gears rule silently blew away in the wind. BIU basically disappeared in america and we just see what the UCI had turned into while the other hand of trials went to the streets. Both evolutions are fairly unwatchable to myself now as they have little to do with what I perceive as real trials. Things change and I get it, its a slipperly slope and i really fear what its gonna be like in 20 years. Robots will probably call us racist because of the loud brakes and terminator everyone who pogos and touches feet to tires, watch out people keep your teeth warm 🫰🐥💪 Yeah those are koxx capris and monty shoes dont b geluz #vip

@tonkshred You ask and you shall receive. 😉

Would you try the Mule TR with a 569mm reach, 423mm chainstay, and 1343mm wheelbase at the @inglewoodpumptrack?

Andrew Tonkery ( @tonkshred ) began riding trials in the late 1990s and is still going strong. After a pretty rough road biking crash, doctors thought he'd remain in a coma, but obviously he's overcome that challenge. In addition to riding trials, Andrew has also taken up MTB Enduro racing. If you've met him or follow him here on IG, you've probably noticed that he also loves tinkering with old bikes. I caught up recently with "Tonk" to get a little bit more of his story and his perspectives on trials. Check it out! (Link in bio)

Had a blast riding the Vortex jumps as well as John Brown and Ant Hill (backwards) at Santos. Great tech to kick off our Florida trip. Thanks to @5riversbikeshop for the Osprey packs. We never noticed they were on until we stopped for snacks.

Nothing…and I mean NOTHING hits quite as hard as new bike day (times 2). Ikiyk.

Sending all my gratitude and Thanks to @trialbikes / @raulfernandezmoulin and crew for making this happen with such speed to the US! As always, everything was ever so carefully packed and perfect.

They’ve gone above and beyond- I am forever grateful!

I *tried* 🤷🏽‍♀️

Mom and my hooman brother were packing for this thing called @bentonvillebikefest, and I attempted to squeeze my 🍑 into a suitcase to come along, but I got caught. They tried to pry me out and eventually bribed me wif some leftover special cookies from @tiny_taco_tales secret stash that mom had hidden away. My stomach couldn’t say no~ so Yes, obviously I gave in. 🍪🍪🍪

Sadly I can’t go, because “it’s not fair to Venus, Bronco, Ducky, and Dick” ~that and supposedly the heat index involved out in Arkansas. ☀️🙄🙄🙄 Likely story.

Cough, cough (::::BS::::)

BUT I hear that the 🏡 they’re staying at has a pool, so I’m sure I could just stay there and play all the day long and hold the fort down while they go fiddle fart with bikes, right? Besides, that would be my chance to see @veratrial in pawson. (Sending you furry hugs and lots of luck! You’re on 🔥 this season) AND missing the chance to go to a group ride and be a volunteer moving obstacle to hop over🤭 That would be a sight to see @shindigmedia 🚲🩸

Anyways, apparently it’s a big deal. Brother @hunter_r_bb8 is getting to skip his graduation to go compete at the @northamericantrials / @uci_trials competition on Saturday. (You got this!!)

The momager still said no, so it “quality time” with the daddo instead. He does let me get away wif a lot, so there’s that at least.

All I gotta say is I habs internet access still here at home and can look to see how many pet stores are along their 900 mile route and back~ and a based on my quick math, I expect, no wait, I DEMAND there be 81,000 dog cookies in that Subaru when they get back home.

ALL Paws crossed.

This year…. This is how it’s gonna roll. Not your typical boring Graduation ‘Shin Dig’…
I’m gonna go out and hang with the real deal~ @shindigmedia

I’m skipping the ceremony and gonna ride myself across the trials course at @bentonvillebikefest during the exact time I should be ‘walking’ across an auditorium stage. Legit, can you think of a better way to end 13 years of sitting on your butt and working your brain? And yes, they will still give me my diploma, they’ll just have to *send it*. How ironically appropriate.

This is it. School is going to be over. Goodbyes said. 4 years of JROTC, 2 years of technical school and many memories made.

Who knew less than 2 years ago how a chance encounter with a funny looking bike with no seat could make such a huge impact on my life. It’s been my sanity, my pride, and my absolute joy. Regardless of the multiple times it’s sent me to the ER, I have zero regrets. I chalk it up to user error and have literally daily - rain, shine, snow and sleet -pushed myself to attain the next personal goal.

So what’s next? For sure I’ll always have my bikes in tow, a fun summer ahead, but after elk hunting season this coming October- I’ll be United States Air Force bound.

Thank you to my sponsors @nocterrabrewing / @kobeasianfusion / @audreythefoxyred / Buckeye Plotts Inc / @arrowheadbikefarm for believing in me and of corse helping financially.

@davidkrut and @arrowheadbikefarm for introducing me to trials bikes, the support, mentorship and for helping me to grow not only as a trials biker- but also as a person.

@tonkshred for words of wisdom and always being there to laugh at me when I fall.

@cleantrials / @trialbikes / @hebo.factory / @magurausa / @jitsietrials / @tartybikes and so many more for keeping me upright and rolling with parts, gear and support.

@belaeykenny / @uci_trials / @northamericantrials and so many others for helping organize such an amazing venue such as @bentonvillebikefest where we can gather to celebrate all things bike!

And to each and every single one of YOU for words of encouragement, posts, tips, tricks and new goals to strive for.

See you at Bentonville !

THROWBACK THURSDAY 📆

This is probably @belaeykenny ’s first video on a 24 inch street trials bike.
Kenny comes from competition trials background and when they shot this video he wasn’t used to riding this type of bike but still he literally fly. That bump hop and the manual on a handrail are still in our minds as something incredible.
