One of the incredible honorees of our upcoming gala is activist, community organizer, and District 39 (which includes Prospect Park) Council Member, Shahana Hanif! Learn more about @cmshahanahanif below, and join us on November 9 at @roulette_intermedium for a spectacular celebration of 7 years of free theater in Brooklyn. Only a few tickets left! ⚡

Council Member Shahana Hanif made history in 2021 as the first Bangladeshi and Muslim woman elected to the New York City Council, representing District 39 in Brooklyn. Currently chairing the Council's Committee on Disabilities and Accessibility, her advocacy is rooted in personal experience—diagnosed with Lupus at seventeen and later denied Access-A-Ride, she witnessed firsthand the barriers facing New Yorkers with disabilities. During her tenure, she has passed landmark legislation expanding abortion access, advancing climate justice, strengthening worker protections, and investing in domestic violence survivor safety. In 2025, she was re-elected to serve her final term.

And the moment has arrived, Melkamu’s last first day of high school. His excitement is palpable. What you don’t see is his proud mother behind the camera remembering, with a bit of emotion, all of those first days of school before this one!!
