The Glimmer Austin Community Center officially celebrated its grand opening at The Other Ones Foundation’s Esperanza Community @toofound in East Austin. The new center serves as a welcoming space where residents can access essential services, connect with community resources, and find opportunities that help build stability and create pathways out of homelessness.

This milestone also marked a significant expansion of Esperanza Community, with the addition of 100 new shelter cabins, bringing the total to approximately 200 and strengthening efforts to provide shelter, support, and hope to individuals experiencing homelessness in Austin.

There’s no other organization like The Other Ones Foundation (@toofound) in Austin. This was finished just in time to celebrate the opening of a new community space provided by @glimmeraustin

It was an absolute joy making their new mission video & interviewing Liz & Emily, especially after working on a short doc about them last year! (That’s still unreleased at this time)

Since 2018, Glimmer Austin has supported The Other Ones Foundation (TOOF), believing in their vision from the early stages and growing alongside Esperanza Community every step of the way @toofound

Today, that long-term partnership reaches a beautiful new chapter with the official opening of the Glimmer Austin Community Center at Esperanza.

The new center expands Esperanza’s ability to provide shelter, supportive services, and pathways toward stability for people experiencing homelessness in Austin. It reflects the continued growth of a community-centered model designed to meet people where they are and connect them with the resources they need to move forward.

Your ability to pay shouldn’t determine the quality of food you get to experience.

Austin is home to an incredible food scene. Unfortunately access to that food and the care that goes into preparing it depends on what you can afford.

We believe it shouldn’t.

That’s what makes our partnership with The Other Ones Foundation (TOOF) @toofound so meaningful.

Through Community Kitchen, local restaurants prepare high-quality meals for residents at the TOOF operated Southbridge Shelter. Restaurants get meaningful business. Food workers get paid work. People experiencing homelessness get to enjoy the same incredible food that Austin is known for.

One of those restaurants is local favorite Chi’Lantro BBQ @chilantro. Their team gets meaningful catering business and paid work for their food workers, while shelter residents get to enjoy a delicious meal from one of Austin’s beloved restaurants.

As Chi’Lantro co-owner Hope Furst put it, “It’s a true win for everyone involved.”

Since Community Kitchen launched during the COVID-19 pandemic, more than 60 Austin restaurants have participated, providing more than 2 million meals to food-insecure Austinites while investing more than $10 million back into local independent restaurants.

This year alone, we’re on track to provide more than 200,000 meals.

Because everyone deserves to experience the quality, creativity, and care that make Austin’s food scene so special.

Good food should connect us, not divide us..

What started as a crisis response during COVID has become a permanent lifeline for Austin. 🧑‍🍳📦

The @goodworkaustinorg Community Kitchen partners with local restaurants to prepare 200,000 meals a year for Austin-area shelters and those facing food insecurity. But the best part? Every single food worker involved in preparing these meals is guaranteed a living wage of at least $22 an hour.

This is what it looks like to solve community needs while creating sustainable, dignified jobs! 👏 Link in bio to watch the full interview.
