There’s nothing quite like the Defender Octa Black. A symphony in (Narvik) black, it gets to 100kmh in 4.4 seconds and onto a top speed of 250kmh. Dropping that number back to zero falls to massive 3-piston monobloc calipers. All of this while being even more capable than the Defender 110: +28mm taller vs Defender 110 +68mm wider vs Defender 110 +100mm wading depth vs Defender 110 Going off-road in style, speed and substance couldn’t be easier. @defender @wearnesautomotive @torque.sg @landrover #carsdaily #carsofinsta #luxurylifestyle #carsofinstagram #defender

Couldn’t think of a better way to spend the day than behind the wheel of the Porsche Macan GTS. The Gran Turismo Sport badge has an illustrious track record and sets high standards, but since this was my first time with an electric GTS, I went in without expectations. The eye-catching signature Carmine Red colour makes for a great first impression from afar. Unmistakable cues on the exterior in the form of the matte black insignia, chin spoiler and rear diffuser, along with options such as the GTS-specific, 22-inch RS Spyder wheels in Anthracite Grey finish and black aluminium roof rails set the GTS apart from the rest of the Macan pack. When you’re done ogling and finally open the doors to its cabin, the excitement is palpable, like unboxing a new handbag or watch. EV or ICE, the interior is unmistakably Porsche. True to its GTS guise, it looks sporty, feels comfortable. Alcantara (Race-Tex in Porsche speak) always sends the right signal, along with Porsche crests on the headrests. The touchscreen interface is intuitive and yay to physical knobs and buttons for climate control. But enough about how it looks. It’s a Porsche and a GTS, so the proof is in the drive. The Macan GTS is quick off its feet, clocking 3.8 seconds from 0-100 km/h. But again, it’s a GTS, so being fast is a given. Besides, many EVs can pull off similar timings. Judging the Macan GTS by its acceleration is like praising a Michelin-starred chef for his or her ability to assemble an epicurean feast. It’s an achievement, but it’s also to be expected. The real test is in the corners and the Macan GTS is truly at its happiest doing the twist and turn, and so am I. It is in its element negotiating bends without the slightest twitch or slip, and it encourages you to be a little naughty. Continued in captions… Thank you @porsche.sg for the drive. 🎥 @therealwongkai #porsche #macan #macangts #ev #suv

The same Defender that handled Taiwan’s gravel tracks is now back on home ground. Or rather, tarmac. A few months ago the Defender was working its way up loose mountain roads outside Kaohsiung, Terrain Response cycling through settings as the surface changed underfoot. In my hands today, it’s parked against a guardrail off a quiet road, trees pressing in on both sides, looking like it has come from a shopping centre carpark. Under the skin, it still retains potent capability. 300PS, 625Nm, all-wheel drive, electronic air suspension that can lift the body by over seven centimetres at the press of a button. A wading depth of 900mm, deep enough for most flash floods. An approach angle steep enough that multi-storey carpark ramps become mere bumps. Hill descent control, hill launch assist, a turning circle tighter than its size would suggest. None of it gets called upon for a school run or a supermarket run. It’s good to know that it’s there, the same way a good pair of boots is enough even on pavement. This Defender happens to be the Trophy Edition, which shows itself in the details: the black contrast bonnet, the gloss black wheel arch protection, the expedition roof rack still doing nothing in particular except look the part. Other versions of this same car wear the spec differently. Less shouty wheels in satin grey rather than gloss black; a roof that stays body-coloured unless you pay extra for black; leather offered as an option rather than included from the start. Strip away the badges, the decals, the bonnet graphic, and what’s left is the same chassis, the same outputs, the same instinct for terrain it will probably never have to cross in the city. To me, maybe, that’s the real point of a car like this. It doesn’t need the terrain, or the trim level, to make a case for itself. It’s kind of overqualified for the errand it’s about to run, and lets you work out for yourself how much of that capability actually matters to you.

My hubby and I spent a day in the Macan Electric courtesy of @porsche.sg, doing everyday things like driving around, having a car boot picnic, going on a grocery run, and exercising; basically just experiencing what it’s like living with a Macan Electric and having it as a daily. Those who know us know that SUV + EV isn’t exactly our favourite combination. Well, let’s just say one of us left convinced, while the other remains to be convinced. Which one of us do you think is the convert? 😉 Thank you @porsche.sg and @jdmbrendan for the drive. Thank you @joyrideswithjonlim for the cameo. #porsche #macan #macanelectric #ev #suv

I can’t believe the right powertrain for a MINI is electric, but here we are. The consensus on the new electric MINI John Cooper Works Aceman positions it as a driver-focused entry that argues the brand’s signature character actually benefits from a plug. Sitting between the Cooper hatch and the larger Countryman, this model ports performance heritage into a five-door electric crossover body, recapturing the hyperactive responses traditionalists associate with the JCW badge. Behind the wheel, the dynamics are instantly animated. When darting through urban gaps or carving along winding roads, the quick steering rack and immediate front-end bite make the car feel alert and easy to position. The low centre of gravity keeps it flat, changing direction with immediate energy. The single electric motor sends 255 hp and 350 Nm of torque exclusively to the front wheels, yielding a 0-100 km/h sprint of 6.4 seconds. While acceleration is highly responsive, dropping the throttle highlights a specific tuning choice: the front tires frequently fight for traction, creating a heavy amount of torque steer because MINI omitted a mechanical limited-slip differential. Far from a clinical modern EV, it behaves with an unrefined, old-school character that demands a firm grip on the steering wheel. The interior features a high-resolution, circular OLED touchscreen handling both instrumentation and infotainment duties with quick processing speeds and playful graphics. However, the performance tuning comes with clear compromises. The suspension calibration is unapologetically rigid, caressing every detail in the road and translating surface imperfections directly into the cabin. Additionally, the 54.2 kWh battery offers a modest real-world driving range hovering between 280 and 320 km, while the 300-litre boot features a relatively high load lip. Ultimately, though, the Aceman JCW trades riding comfort for distinct technical character, proving electricity hasn’t dulled the brand’s willingness to build a delightfully compromised hot hatch. Long may this last. #MINI #MINIAceman #JCW #carsdaily

Evaluating the KGM Torres EVX offers a useful reminder that initial automotive critiques require a closer look, and that sometimes a car can thoroughly surprise you. A common sentiment across some publications labels this electric SUV as a pastiche of design tropes, accompanied by reservations regarding its overall build quality. These are valid observations, but perhaps better viewed as less substantial compromises rather than outright deal-breakers. In fact, I found myself genuinely liking the car, as its practical charms and execution outweigh its rougher edges. The styling follows a distinctly “Korean-esque” philosophy that is busy, technically complex, and heavily reliant on digital expression. While it may not be conventionally elegant, it has a futuristic presence with a coolness to its rugged aesthetic that grew on me. When you look past the exterior, the Torres EVX reveals a satisfying, well-considered offering that is eager to please. It is quite fully featured and packed with thoughtful quality-of-life touches. Beyond the inclusion of ventilated front seats, extendable sun visors with illuminated vanity mirrors, and an Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control system with centering lane-keeping assist, the platform provides several delightful details.
