We arrived Taormina on a fine afternoon and disembarked in the most beautiful train station I have ever seen in all my travels. I asked ai about it and he said that this fabulous station was rebuilt in the late 1920s, the structure is a masterclass in eclectic design, seamlessly blending medieval revival elements with the poetic, flowing aesthetics of the Belle Époque. One day I will shoot a scene in this station :)

Confession : I blindly leapt into this elaborate plan to circumnavigate the island of Sicily with zero expectations. I had just recently finished a dream project, so I did not want to do something that entailed too much control, and so I allowed Tor, who also did not know what to do expect, to plot the trek. He did a great job 👏 But I didn’t quite realize that this would turn out to be one loooong bisita iglesia, it was inevitable! Every single, city, town, and street we would walk into had ancient churches that had their doors wide open for us to peruse and marvel at the glory of the art and architecture, and history. Some churches were simple and very quietly moving, some were very elaborate and grand, many were amazing layers of history one on top of another. Wonderfully overwhelming! But, to tell you the truth, I always leave a church with just one thought - This simple, long- haired, brown-skinned, unshaven, soft-spoken man called Jesus,…how he truly moved the world! And wow 😳 did his legacy sustain through centuries! inspiring artists, writers, architects, great philosophers to create such great works that endure to this very day! Undeniably, There is indeed something to this man called Jesus! Yet look at him, understand him deeply, contemplate his life and you will realize that his only answer is LOVE. The destination is LOVE ❤️ simple.

Random snapshots from the last month’s sojourn, having met so many wonderful people along the way, so I may never forget that, no matter what, there is always reason to be relentlessly optimistic.

We were granted the privilege of attending the Venice Bienalle this year where the world’s outstanding contemporary artists displayed works of passion. Our good friend @jon_cuyson represented the Philippines, which made this very meaningful for me. You see, I’ve known Jon since our reckless days in Malate, struggling and growing together through decades in advertising, dreaming big in New York, thinking cinema, striving to keep creating, then coming back home and figuring life out in @balailahi :) We have practically lived life together, knowing each other’s dreams and struggles, and I know THIS SEASON was a great part of his dream! It just tells me never to give up on creating! Mabuhay ka Kaibigan! May you, and the likes of you, flourish!

Pulsating Palermo 👏

Palermo is indeed the heart of Sicily!!! The capital of “La dolce far niente”, He’s maingay, grand in his gestures, full of stories, both glorious and tragic. This is where men still sing to the top of their tenor tones as they stroll down the streets, where nonnas shout out from their balconies like no one else was around, where food is a religious experience, and laughter always echoes in the narrow eskenitas. I dare say it might actually be the soul of Italy !

I haven’t been able to post anything lately because there’s just soooo much about this year’s sojourn that’s for the books ! It’s overwhelming!!! But this one deserves real-time update ! We met up with our dear friend @jon_cuyson in Venice to see his exhibit at the @venice_biennale_2026. What makes this even more magical, my nephew @pao_laurel hopped on a train from Rome to meet up with us !!! It was a blast !!! A passeggiata through San Marco all giddy and proud of Jon !!!

Reflections on the road

This poet’s words express exactly what I feel about everything I’ve been absorbing these past few weeks.

This is why we dared to venture through the unbeaten roads!!! ☀️🔥🤗 Imagine stepping onto a sun-drenched limestone ridge where the ancient world still breathes. The Valley of the Temples isn’t actually a valley at all—it is a monumental line of defense and devotion perched high above the Mediterranean Sea.
Built in the 5th century BC, these towering golden structures served as an intentional display of wealth and power by the Greek citizens of Akragas, designed to intimidate passing sailors and rival empires.
