If you’re serious about getting stronger or building muscle, start tracking your workouts.

Why?

Because one of the most important principles in strength training is progressive overload.

Progressive overload simply means gradually increasing the demands you place on your body over time. As your body adapts to training, you need to continue challenging it to give it a reason to keep adapting.

That might mean:

• Adding weight
• Doing more reps with the same weight
• Improving your range of motion
• Improving technique and control
• Gradually training closer to failure

But here’s the problem…

If you don’t know what you did last week, how do you know if you’re progressing this week?

Tracking your workouts gives you a target to beat.

If you squatted 225 pounds for 8 reps last week, maybe the goal is 9 reps this week. Eventually you hit 10, increase the weight, and start building again.

That’s progressive overload in action.

Research consistently shows that muscle and strength adaptations are driven by providing a sufficient training stimulus and progressively challenging the body as it adapts.

You don’t need to set a PR every workout, and progress won’t always be perfectly linear.

But walking into the gym knowing exactly what you did last time gives you something incredibly valuable:

A goal for what to improve today.

Track your training. Give yourself a target. Keep progressing.

Another block, another batch of training PR’s secured✅

Been investing a lot of focus and effort into my offseason training as of late and it’s definitely showing.

The 3 comp lifts are all feeling solid in their own regard, with squats taking the cake as the most improved upon this past block.

Tweaked bracing (belt lower on my torso on squats / higher on deadlifts) and bar positioning slightly, which made a significant difference in my confidence and rep consistency. Depth issue also seems to be essentially taken care of, which is a relief.

Bench has been (as usual) the most stubborn lift, but I’m confident that by accumulating more quality volume and being patient, It’ll come to.

Still ended up hitting some solid numbers last week:
🐝 177.5 kg (391) x 4 Squat PR‼️
🐝 120 kg (264) x 1 Bench Fatingle PR‼️ (Comp PR match after 4 working sets. Not the prettiest, but a step in the right direction)
🐝 220 kg (485) x 3 Deadlift PR‼️

I’m really enjoying this process and I’m excited to keep stacking small wins every week. At the rate we’re going, there should be some cool PR’s in the horizon. Time to make it happen.🫡
