Bookworm blog: #MIBF2026 Day 5
09/13/26 | Sunday

Hi there! I’m Jen, welcome to my MIBF diary entry for Day 5 / the last day - here’s how it went!

I’ve said this in my stories but here it is again: I.was.not.supposed.to.attend.Sunday!!
I had planned this out months before, before all the announcements & scheduled events, I was 100% set on only going on Friday (shopping) & Saturday (signings), sabi ko kung ano abutan kong ganap yun na yun, no to Sunday because it’s the most crowded of all.

Everything changed (exagge) when Anvil posted…the group launch on Sunday will have Merlinda Bobis. Omg. Ang book namin sa hotel check out na ng Sunday. After a quick deliberation (OA talaga) w/ my hubby, it was decided. We extend our stay. I’m going to see Merlinda. Sabi ko, I think I’ll regret if I skip this - skip para makatipid ng pera and oras, ay, money will return. I can’t be confident that the chance will occur again for me. Turns out, this was the correct decision.

Thank you Anvil (and tita Claire to the max) for this moment. Not only did I meet her, but we also got to see her in all her gloriousness, reading and more, on stage. The charisma & power is unmatched. Hindi na to OA. I uploaded the full video of her on stage please check it out, you’ll see I’m telling the truth and nothing but the truth. 😆

This is the highlight-est highlight of my MIBF.

Of course, exciting pa din ang the rest (everything in the carousel!). Gosh. Sobrang saya ko.

To friends heading to MIBF this weekend and still looking for books to add to your MIBF shopping list, here are a few books I highly recommend! 📝

They're by Filipino authors I personally know and had the privilege of meeting recently. 🥰

If you're looking for something new to read, give these books a spot in your MIBF haul! Let's support up-and-coming Filipino authors and their stories! 📚

happy national heroes day, christmas eve (for filipinos at least 🤭), end of august, and of course, advance MIBF season to everyone who celebrates!!! 💃🕺

unfortunately, i won’t be in this year’s MIBF, but that doesn’t mean i can’t share some book recs with you guys! these are books i’ve personally enjoyed, am currently enjoying, or have very high up on my TBR. basically, books i think a lot of you might enjoy too, which is why i made this list for specific kinds of readers. you’ll see what i mean as you go through the carousel 👀

for those who don’t know, the Manila International Book Fair (MIBF) is the biggest book fair in the Philippines, bringing together readers, authors, publishers, bookstores, and other bookish folks. this year’s MIBF is happening on september 9–13 at SMX Convention Center Manila!

every book on this list should be available at MIBF, but i could be wrong! i’ll be tagging the authors and/or publishers so you can check with them directly if you’re looking for a specific title.

hopefully, you find your next favorite read somewhere in this list! and if you do, let me know!

now go forth and make thoughtful book-buying decisions. or not. 😌

Yesterday, we celebrated first time authors but more than that, we united as advocates of promoting Filipino books, local creatives and self-publishing.

We could not contain our happiness for having the chance to connect and be allowed a space for new voices to be heard. 🙏

Self-publishing a book is never easy but in our own little way, we wanted to show them that they are supported, admired and appreciated. Thank you, @sumusulat.racky , @girlbyeancawords and @malayangtaludturan_ for sharing your journey with us and all the inspirational words that you have imparted us.

Thank you, @bookpackersclub for joining us and lending your ears to these new voices who have a fresh perspective and with so many feelings to express.

We are also grateful to @cafeshylo.pasig for warmly welcoming us to your space and providing a new home for some of our community's books.

Most especially, to our co-founder, @betweenlinesandverses and our lovely host, @thelairofarabella_ for organizing this event that aims to uplift self-published authors who deserve more love and support.

This event won't be a success without everyone's passion for art and community.

See you all on our next event! ❤️

Here's a little surprise for you, fam! ❤️

Aside from the book conversations and books from our invited authors, we are also bringing in zines and books by members of our community to the event!

These will be available for purchase, and if the author is around, you may even get the chance to have your copy signed by them.

So come by and support self-published Filipino authors. 🇵🇭

Every copy purchased is more than just a book. It is a little way of showing that you believe in their works and you want to keep them creating and putting their works out into the world.

Hope you find a new favorite book (or two!) and meet the wonderful people behind the pages.

We are excited to see you at the event! 😊

August is Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa. 🇵🇭 It is a beautiful time to celebrate our language, our stories, and the Filipino voices behind them.

To celebrate, we are proud to share a community giveaway with you!

This initiative was made possible through the generosity of the wonderful self-published Filipino authors within our community who came together and pitched in to share their books and zines.

Self-publishing is a journey that takes courage, passion, time, and a whole lot of heart. Behind every independently published book is an author who chose to believe in their words and put it out into the world. They deserve to be discovered, read, and supported, too. ✨

Through this giveaway, we hope to help more Filipino-authored books and zines reach new readers, while shining a little more light on the talented self-published authors in our community.

Because supporting Filipino literature doesn't only mean buying a book. It also means discovering new voices, sharing their work, reading their stories, and giving independent authors a chance to be heard. ❤️

This giveaway is open to Philippine residents only.

📖 Giveaway mechanics and important notes are posted on the second slide.

Come join us, discover a new Filipino author, and be part of a community that believes our stories are worth sharing and our writers are worth supporting.

From the bottom of our hearts, we would like to thank you all in advance. 🙏
