Is your breakaway cable hooked to your safety chains? That’s one of the most common RV towing mistakes… and it could get you fined or your rig held until it’s fixed.

After years as an over-the-road trucker dealing with DOT, I can tell you this… a lot of RVers think DOT doesn’t pay attention to them. But towing laws change state to state, and you follow the laws of the state you’re driving in… not your home state. #rvsafety #rvtips #veteranrver #towingsafety #towingsafety

Your breakaway cable needs its own attachment point so your trailer brakes actually engage if your trailer comes loose. Our friends @trekersorg did a great video on the right breakaway cable setup using the @towtether1 … go check it out and give them some love.

Safe towing, everyone.

TowTether is joining us for The Amazing QR-Ace at Hershey, and they’re bringing a whole batch of prizes with them.

Their products are built around trailer breakaway safety. The TowTether Trailer Safety Cable gives you a dedicated place to connect your breakaway cable to the tow vehicle, while their complete Breakaway Kit includes the emergency switch, a 6-foot Zip coiled tether, and the TowTether safety cable.

For the QR-Ace, they’re contributing 5 Trailer Breakaway Kits and 5 Trailer Safety Cables, for 10 prizes total and $374.50 in combined value. So this one is going to have quite a few chances to win.

Follow Nomadic Influence for the QR-Ace launch and app download details as we get closer to Hershey.

And go check out TowTether if trailer safety is one of those things you’d rather have squared away before you ever need it.

Well, this made us check our own tow setup. 😳

TowTether creates a dedicated, independent attachment point for your emergency breakaway cable, so if your trailer or towed vehicle separates, the breakaway system can do its job.

While learning about TowTether at the Hershey RV Show, we discovered something: we don’t think our flat-tow setup has a separate emergency breakaway cable installed. That’s getting checked!

Nine years of full-time RVing and we’re STILL learning.

Now check yours: Where is your breakaway cable attached?
