On March 29th Black Expressions had fun on their hike at The Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge!

This event was inspired by our very own Climate Ambassador, Chantea Moore, to reconnect people of color to the land and accessible climate solutions. We understand the trauma that is situated within climate change solutions and social justice initiatives that have been divorced from the perspectives of people of color.

This event for AC students was led by Karen Glenn, a professor who integrates Native American sensibilities into the care of the land, and Dr. Lisa Brown, who knows several tips and tricks about the land and how people of color are culturally connected. By removing the stigma that exploring the great outdoors is just an experience for people of privilege, we strive to give our people the opportunity to reconnect to our roots.

On February 21st Black Expressions held our annual Black History Month Brunch! We are so grateful that members of the Grayson County NAACP were able to attend and celebrate with us! Here are some of our favorite moments 🤎

On MLK Day, four of our Black Expressions members had the honor of presenting our own expressions of being a bridge to our communities.

Listening to the impact of our peers within the black community here in Sherman, Texas and talking about our own take on the theme: “Be the Bridge: From Division to or Beloved Community!” We sincerely ask that during this time of division within the world, that you reflect, and ask yourself if you are building a bridge to others who may have different skin color, sexuality, sex, gender, or other things that may be from yourself. Or, are you instead building walls to shut those people out?

left my comfort zone in 2025✨

sometimes you need to test your limits. live abroad and speak another language to finally get that you ARE in fact proficient in spanish. overload your schedule with jobs, clubs, internships, and grad school applications only to prove to yourself that you CAN do it all (with support from the amazing people around you!!). graduate college and start a new adventure (even thought it’s hard) so you know you DO love your program and your new friends. 2025 was a year of growth, growing connections, breaking down boundaries- and learning that sometimes its ok to be sappy. so to everyone who lived through 2025 with me, thank you for being such a wonderful and meaningful part of my year- I couldn’t have become this version of me without you.

CAB Retreat 2025 was a huge success! The team got to work planning some great events for y’all this school year! We’re super excited to welcome our new Roos to campus!

Get ready for a carnival-style night at New Roo on the Green this Saturday, followed by the excitement of Monte Carlo Casino night on Sunday! Hope to see you all there!♠️♦️

What an amazing night! Huge thanks to everyone who came out to our “From Asia to Latin America: Spring Roll, Temaki, & Agua Fresca Night” collab with La Familia and ASA! From making our own spring rolls and temaki to sipping on agua frescas, it was a blast! Check out some of the highlights from the night. ✨
