Land of Light 100K returns this October.

25K of trail. 75K of bike. One route through Buckfield, Norway, South Paris, Otisfield, and Waterford, carved through the Western Foothills. Solo or team, it’s on you.

But this race is bigger than the finish line. Local businesses stand behind the athletes taking on the course, and the funds raised go to TruStrength Tomorrow, putting Oxford Hills youth into mentorship through sport. This is our community investing in the next generation, one race at a time.

Six years in and this community just keeps going bigger. ⛷️❄️

The Uphill Will 24-Hour Ski Challenge wrapped up year six with 52 athletes climbing just under one million feet of vertical in 24 hours. An absolutely wild effort from everyone who showed up and kept moving through the day, the night, and back into the morning.

Even bigger than the vert was the impact. Together, this crew raised just over $29,000 for TruStrength Tomorrow, helping give young athletes access to mentorship and the equipment they need to get into sports. That’s huge.

And in a pretty perfect twist, the fundraising total basically hit Everest. Around $29K raised, right in line with Everest’s 29,000 feet. 🏔️

Huge thank you to Mount Abram for always being such a gracious host and venue for this event. We’re incredibly lucky to have a mountain that supports this community year after year.

To everyone who skied, donated, volunteered, and cheered people on through the night… THANK YOU. The energy, the grit, the community… it was all there.

Year six was something special. Can’t wait to see what year seven brings!

Tucked in the heart of Bethel, Maine, Gemini Bakery once again filled Land of Light with warmth, community, and the smell of fresh bread and good coffee. Known for their locally grown ingredients and cozy café vibe, Gemini brought the same energy that makes their space a hometown favorite to this year’s event.

They proudly backed local athlete Tracyn Thayer for another incredible run — and they’re already excited to do it all again next year.

Land of Light 2025.
Records shattered. Legs burned. Hearts full.
Matt Pennock obliterated the course record by 21 minutes, crossing the line in 4 hours, 32 minutes.

The members of the Bethel Rotary recognized Telstar HS Senior, Izaac Greenberg, for his being named one of the recent Students of the Month. Izaac is seen as a terrific and caring student and community member, and plans to head to Massachusetts Maritime Academy in the fall. President Elect Richard Tummon read the accolades provided by his nominator, and congratulated him on behalf of the club. A recap of the second event in the @trustrengthathletics Uphill Cup where there’s a race for everyone no matter your skill/comfort level or equipment! Do as many laps as you can in two hours skiing groomers, or ski an advanced skimo course with plenty of off-groomer skiing (heavy equipment divisions for both so you aren’t penalized for your gear). Shoutout to all the athletes who competed and showed up ready to push themselves and encourage others! The final race in the series is March 10 at Sunday River.

It’s hard to believe that this summer will be 5 years since this wild adventure with some crazy talented people.

I remember a conversation I had with my dad just before going on this journey and I told him something along the lines of “I’m going to be gone for a while in the bush with a canoe retracing our ancestors footsteps” looking for some reassurance. With confidence and pride in his voice he says something like “you’ll be fine, remember you grew up in the bush. We had you out with us hunting, fishing and trapping since you were little. We ARE bush people, you’ll just be living, we’re built for this.

That conversation set my focus just moments before I went off the grid, for the entire 40 days I was out in the wilderness, where I belonged, with my ancestors! Same waters, same mountains, same footsteps… 100 years later. Nothing could stop me 🦅
