Vulnerability isn’t weakness. It’s a form of strength.

For many, pelvic floor symptoms and sexual dysfunction can affect more than physical health. They can challenge confidence and the way someone sees themselves.

Michael shares why one of the biggest hurdles in helping men recover is shifting the belief that being in touch with your emotions makes you weaker. In reality, self-compassion and vulnerability can be powerful parts of healing.

Michael knows this work from both sides. As a mind-body pelvic health specialist, he has helped more than 1,000 men improve their symptoms. But his understanding of this work also comes from his own experience.

Michael saw a direct connection between his own symptoms getting worse and the patterns, emotions, and experiences that were influencing his body. Then, as he worked with clients, he began seeing many of them have those same realizations.

As they started making changes and understanding the connection between the brain, body, and nervous system, they began to see improvements, too.

Today, Michael is able to do things he couldn’t do when chronic symptoms were controlling his life, including something as simple as going to the bathroom without difficulty.

For anyone struggling with pelvic symptoms, pain, or feeling like their body is stuck in a cycle, Michael’s story offers a reminder that there may be more to the picture than you realize.

Today’s episode will transform how you think about
- and approach - your own sexual wellness. You’ll see why it’s a necessary ingredient to your overall holistic health. And you’ll leave with weird techniques that can make a significant difference to your connection and sense of pleasure (versus pressure) when it’s time to “get busy.”

Here’s what Michael and I discuss:

Why your sexual health means so much more than your penis or pelvic floor.

How bringing more sexual energy into your platonic relationships improves your sexual relationship with your partner.

Why the best way to improve your sexual health is by playing more in your day-to-day life.

And so much more

One thing that frustrates me about psychology is how complicated it makes healing. Because when you’re in pain and afraid, you clearly can’t think.

But there is a good chance your body is restless in this state, and your restlessness has a job — to remind you to MOVE.

Yesterday I was working with a male client with chronic pelvic and throat pain.

I took him over to @transformpelvichealth for
Michael’s top favorite morning self care practice.

You guessed it — Dancing!

Not at a club or studio. He was in his living room. Feeling the music. Letting it move through him. His body did the work.

Sometimes we overcomplicate healing so much that it becomes inaccessible or just another thing we can’t get right.

But what if we kept it simple, light, and fun? What if we dared to get a little ridiculous, even?

Instead of overthinking your pain, what if you let a good wiggle, shake, and shimmy dance you into healing?

It’s not just a theory. It works!

HMU if you’re looking for a dance partner ✨🕺🏽✨

I used to think that I didn’t get angry.

It’s true, I rarely feel anger towards people or situations. But…what I didn’t realize is that my body still needs POWERFUL EXPRESSION.

It might look like anger, but to me, it is stuckness needing to move through. I used to keep this stuck through just doing equanimity meditations. Being in silence, letting it pass.
Again, I am not re-activating the “reactor.” I’m just learning the importance of allowing the body to express a full range of energy. It might be yelling, hitting, crying, running, dancing, shaking...

…it often is what you are not comfortable or used to doing….that you need to do the most.

And no…this is not actually my daily morning routine. But it was my morning routine, this morning, and it’s exactly what my body needed.

On my quest to discovering the most direct route to a somatic memory release, I took part in the @somaticrelease Practitioner Training program. I was curious to see Steven Jaggers’s special sauce, and if it was really any different from what I had already done.

I attended the 4 day in-person training in Denver. Initially, the material was feeling like a review for me, and I was a little let down. But…I stayed with it, and a few days in, I started to notice something: the genius of the Soma+IQ modality is not in the system, but in the attunement.

Somatic Breathwork is the art of noticing. The art of attuning to each person that is being guided by you. Not just saying cues. Not just choosing good music. But watching the micro movements of the face, the belly, the eyes. Connecting in with their heart, and really being there with them.

It’s these subtle, nuanced, softer sides of somatic release work that was more clearly revealed. When Steven guided a group session for the practitioner trainees, his slow, un-rushed tact created expansion for what was already organically arising for those in the group. It was less about a specific song or prompt, and more about carving out a little more space for them.

As I continue my journey of researching “somatic memory release,” I can already tell that it might prove difficult to pinpoint a specific technique or exact formula. Each person is highly unique. Instead of finding the right exercise, song, words, or touch, it is more likely about creating an environment of safety, fully attuning and co-regulating to a loving human, and finally letting the body move through what it has held within for so long.

Thank you to Steven (@jaggersjr and Adam (@adam.carbary for the fantastic practitioner training. And thank you to all who attended with me, you’re lovely beings! 💙
